No offense meant OP, but, based on what you've said, it sounds like your friend & her boyfriend aren't the brightest bulbs in the box and have been conned. They obviously know nothing about cars, didn't take anyone along with them who did and paid cash for a vehicle from a private party who 'promised' the title was clear and they'd mail it to them ... wow!!!

Again, based on what you've said, they were at a minimum scammed; it wouldn't surprise me to find out they met the person at some parking lot or fast food joint to do the deal. It also wouldn't surprise me if the seller's information in the bill of sale is all false and/or that the car is (now) reported stolen ... I hope not, but this whole thing stinks of a big con.

If your friend has kept a copy of the Craig's List add and it clearly states ZL1 (not just a picture showing the badges) and/or the bill of sale clearly stats ZL1 she could take them to small claims court and possibly file a criminal case. Of course, this all comes down to if she can ever find or contact the seller again .... my guess would be he's in the wind.

Add: I agree with those that have suggested advising her to get a lawyer; they can provide her the best advice and help keep her out of any potential legal trouble. In the end, I hope it all works out for them or at least the learn a valuable lesson ...

Mommy and daddy since teach them enough I guess. So here's what you tell them. GO GET A LAWYER. Unless there's a lawyer on here then I wouldn't Listen to many of these ppl. Ok ok I'll back off a bit.. Asking for a friend... But. I did indeed read every post and you have to admit... It reads like one of those troll posts. You know the one where you first try to offer assistance and no matter what people say to help things just go down hill.... Or what ever people say to help there is a reason that advice does not or will not work...

Yeah I just told her that she's pretty much screwed. She can get a lawyer but they don't really have like paperwork on what went down. I think she just saw zl1 and thought it was a good buy. Just young but it's a lesson learned hopefully.

For real.. Anyone can look at the posts I've posted. None of them consists of trolling. None at all. So it's whatever lol not like I'll ever meet him/her so idc what he/she thinks of me. Just wanted opinions.
