N02 ??

Anyone running a nitrous shot on the LSX454?

I don`t think it would take much to put that combo at 750 WHP .

A little more info might help us help you. What blower exactly? Up to how much power?
The weight of the LSX block is no joke. It drops the front of your car almost an inch from the weight. I would not even consider an LSX block for anything under 1000whp.

LSX Block weight

Another great point AGP. There is really no reason in my mind to commit to anything LSX block based for under 1000 HP. Let`s say 1100 HP because there are a few 1000 HP aluminum block LS motors around I`m sure.

The idea about all this came to me when another member mentioned wanting to go with the LSX B8 engine. In doing so he hoped to have reliability and a warranty covering failure. I really don`t know how the LSX block achieves reliability in anything under the 1100 HP mark and even then the other components begin to be an issue.

All this has just been food for thought. Nothing more.

Power being the goal, there are many paths to take in getting there.

Thanks for the dialog so far.

I have found it interesting that many run the 4 inch stroke LS3 combo and some run a 4.1 or 4.125 stroke combo but when I introduced the topic of the LSX454 there was immediate negative response.

650 HP and 640 TQ is no joke and making it NA. Especially for a Truck.

Curious. How is that trans holding up? I ask because that is a issue that I will need address in the future and I like the 6 speed. As long as it will live.

Thanks for the feedback.
The trans has been great. It was built and tuned for the truck and motor. The guys at GearStar were recommended by Turn Key Engines and do excellent work. I'm running a 2600 stall converter and I've been real happy with the motor/trans combo so far. However, that doesn't mean we won't tune on it more this summer.

Gearstar Trans

I was wondering. They are a little better on price than some of the others and have a very comparable product. Thanks for the info.

@Frontrunner - just curious, do you track fuel mileage at all? If so, what kind of mileage do you see out of that combo?

Sorry OP, not trying to threadjack....

Scott,

Sorry I haven't tracked the fuel mileage. The truck isn't a daily driver and I'm still dialing it in when I can find time to focus on it. This has been a three year project and the truck, engine, trans, etc. have less than 500 miles on them.

After a few more upgrades I plan to have more tuning done on the Dyno and then I can spend more time on the road.

I don't understand the fixation with LSx blocks period... Sure, if due diligence is taken and the block is checked for any possible defects and not just an off the shelf item then fine... I've read a few too many articles and threads about failures well below the touted power capabilities of the LSx.

As for aluminum motors, I know of a number of them that have made well in excess of 1,000 RWHP and mine is making right at 2,000 RWHP with more to go when we get the waste gates on CO2 control...

The Darton style sleeves are capable of holding about three times the pressure of a cast iron sleeve... With some work on the block and Darton sleeves a lighter power plant can be had with the same reliability of any LSx block... For 800-1000 RWHP, an off the shelf LS block from any of a number of builders can be had.... I chose and use ERL... My old ERL motor made 1400 at the rear wheels (but we wanted more and so I had a custom motor built...)

Here is a link to the same basic motor I had though mine was a wet sleeve motor... Mine was rated for 800 hp and we made 1300+ though we kept pushing head gaskets out due to it only being a 4 bolt head and pushing 18 - 24 lbs of boost.... My new motor has the six bolt option...

http://www.erlperformance.com/produc...427-m-o-lc-pa/

There are wet sleeve options.. There are also options for a 454 ci motor with 5.8 inch long sleeves, to control the piston wobble at BDC...

Just food for thought...

Impressive options

ERL appears to have a very impressive line of options available. The price is on par as well and seems to be a much better value than the LSX variety of crate motors. However, this is purely my opinion based on 10 minutes of reading.

Thanks for the info.

I recommend you take a little time and read a few of the tech articles posted on their website...

If you want to call and talk to one of the guys there I can put you in touch with Andres....He flew down to Texas for the Mile to be with us and talk to other owners and drivers... Great guy...
