Nice work. Love the various options DIY'ers are coming up with. I am thinking of doing the same on mine. While I looked through most of the posts, I admittedly did not read every post since there are almost 50 pages on this topic.

For those of you that run the tray underneath - is it effective enough to deflect water away to the point where I can run without the engine cover? I'd rather remove the cover if not needed underneath the heat extractor and hopefully vent better. I realize that extraction alone isnt everything as there are varying pressures of air inside the engine bay especially during driving. But I want to see if I can remove heat by removing the engine cover and having the heat extractor hopefully drive away the excess heat.

I'm also thinking of the ACS firewall insert mod to that can bring in air through the front mailslot. so in the end I hope to have increased air flow through the mail slot and increased exhaust of heat through a removed engine cover and functional heat extractor with water tray. Can anyone confirm if the water tray will protect the top of the engine without the cover?

The drip tray is pretty effective, although when I go through the car wash, a little water gets on the motor. When it rains its fine. In the Summer I leave the tray off for days at a time when the weather is clear. Have you ever heard of South Eastern Pennsylvania 5th Gen owners? SEPA5, we meet in Trooper Pa once a month on Sundays.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. Sounds like as long as there isnt high pressure water being forced down it should be ok but I am still open to input from anyone else's experiences.

I'm only a half hour from Trooper! But I haven't had a chance yet. Would like to do so. Car is in storage right now, hoping to pull her out in March!

Good thread. Lots of great ideas and alternatives. Here are some pics I had taken but had not posted of my install. I used the ACS 4teen heat extractor kit. I wanted the water tray. But I made some modifications since I felt it is a bit restrictive. Granted the air pressures inside the engine bay and outside, along with relative flow, create a suction where the heat is drawn out but I thought I would better assist it by drilling holes on the back side for more suction.

Cut hood, cut the underhood area to prepare for tray, drilled out tray, installed.

I have read all 55 pages of this post but unfortunately cannot find my answer. Perhaps someone running a Magnuson TVS 2300 will know if the SLP Part #: 620032 heat extractor will work on a 2011 SS with a blower. The part is made to drop into the 2014 opening with the SLP blower. I'm feeling good about it but man a hole in the hood only to find out the thing doesn't clear would be a horrible thing. SLP won't say either way when I called them. Thanks guys, I really hope someone can advise. If it turns out to be super close, do you think moving the extractor further back away from the TB would help?

I have never heard if this works either. If you find out feedback would be good so everyone would have an idea.

The movement of the extractor is very possible. The original measurements were based off of 2014 stock placement. You can move it back with little to no issues.
