2015 Z/28 Engine Flutter Noise
I just bought a new 2015 Z/28 last week; when accelerating I hear a subtle what I'd describe as a flutter; it goes away when the car is in neutral; the car only has 150 miles and sat on the dealer's lot for 17 months, and so I wonder if that has anything to do with it; I'm curious to hear if any other '14 or '15 Z/28 owners have this noise? It's not loud and you can't hear it with the windows down...but it's there. Thanks!

I have 2015 also, Is it kind of a fluttering sound that could be described as a super soft tick, like not a metal on metal tick, but almost like a super dull exhaust leak??? If so, I have the same sound when accelerating lighlty or especially if I am in first gear going like 15mph and maintaining a steady RPM, I can hear it more with my window down. I assume it is just something with the super beefy valvetrain I am hearing and it doesn't sound like something that I should be worried about.

You will get a flutter type noise for several reasons. 1 is, the exhaust flaps are closed and you are accelerating with them closed (they will open on their own). To remedy this you can pull the exh flap fuse located in the trunk. The 2nd reason is, you have traction control on and you are pushing the pedal too hard which the ECM will come in and moderate your inputs which will cause a noise similar to a "flutter". I get this at events depending on which PTM mode i am in.

I get a similar fluttering noise as described by C-Nears. My exhaust fuse is pulled and I drive with all traction completely off on the street. It only appears when cruising at very low speed at low part throttle (%5 or less) I'm guessing it is some kind of resonance in the exhaust system at certain rpm / load. The Z is a noisy machine, get used to it..

Hello everyone, I have the same super soft tick coming from my 2015 z28. I haven't been concerned since it is the same noise that came from my 2007 velocity yellow zo6, 2007 black zo6, and my 2012 white Zo6. I was always told it was just the nature of the ls7. I hope this helps put everyone at ease. If anyone knows different please let me know.
Thanks Everyone Juan |

Thanks for the comments from everyone. Yes, the noise sounds like a soft tick as C-Nears describes, and I generally hear it when accelerating at low RPM's. So...it sounds like it might be normal. I have a service appointment at the Chevrolet dealership tomorrow to take a look. I'm thinking they'll tell me that it's normal, but I just want to be sure.

Even with my exhaust fuse pulled, I can still hear the flapper valve moving at low rpm driving, and sounds like a flutter. Or, even hear8ng them close shut at time after getting on it a little.

Prob just the shutter valve in muffler rear. WD or PB the shit. OR replace your rears with upgraded units deleting the issue entirely. I did.

I don't think WD or PB will resolve the issue. It will still be possible to hear them flutter at low RPMs and also close shut (clapping metal sound). Best bet is to replace them as you suggested.
