I just checked my DIC and it shows that I am averaging 19.7 mpg. That's in town and country road driving.

I just finished a 1200 mile trip from Texas. I averaged 23.2 mpg. In town, it only dropped to 22mpg.

welllllll.........now think for a moment --

Do you believe that in over 10,000 miles I've only driven on highways?

I take side streets from Grosse Pointe Farms into Detroit each day that I'm working at the RenCen -- all city driving with stops and starts. (and I'm not known for going slow....) And when I go to the GM Tech Center? Stop and go driving on I-94 and I-696 -- forget highway mileage....

Milford Proving Grounds? Stop and Go driving on I-94, I-696- and I-96.......again - not conducive to highway mileage figures.....

On a trip from Grosse Pointe to Mars (Pittsburgh) at midnight? High 20s-- no traffic and I set the cruise at -- oh - uh -- 70???

Yes -- lots of trips, but frankly, I live to hear the roar of Thor's LS3........

What I'm saying is that your mileage WILL vary. If you drive a Camaro like you stole it, it will get poor mileage. If you drive conservatively - (and watch the instant mileage thru DIC) you'll get incredibly great gas mileage.

Moreover, the engines must break in - and when they do, mileage increases.

So - as I type this, Thor is about to break thru 15,000 miles -- and the last time I looked, his mileage computer was at just about 20 miles per gallon.....

........and if I must say so myself -- that's pretty remarkable........

(...did I mention that he idles quite a bit at Camaro/Firebird shows???)

My new auto 2ss is averaging about the same, they only get good milage on the freeway while cruising. My C6 corvette gets way better milage and is much faster! But this car is still cool and runs pretty good for a heavy car.

Umm the C6 has practically the same powertrain and is a good bit lighter. It's pretty obvious that it would perform better in both MPG and speed.

Mostly around town, 17.7. I got stuck in heavy traffic a couple days ago and it dropped to 17.4. Lame. Cruise on the highway at... well... let's just say over the speed limit... and with some right foot induced passing, got around 20. I'm sure if I stuck it at 70 and didn't downshift and punch it to get around cars it woulda been a few higher. Try hitting a highway and set the cruise and resetting the MPG while you're cruising. That'll let you see how your car is doing. Also, the MPG ratings are done at 93 octane I'm sure so if you're only running 91 or 89 yours will be less.

Hahaha! Great points and I agree completely! I'm sitting with just above 1500 miles and honestly, the gas mileage doesn't bother me one bit, great MPG or not. It's a weekender and I'm definitely not complaining. So you are saying as the mileage goes up, there are more sweet spots that will improve gas mileage once you get up to 20 or 30 thousand miles? I know my Cobalt SS/SC is definitely like that 33MPG with a GM Stage 2 Upgrade. Rated was 30MPG on the sticker. I can see it happening. Just need to be more patient. Thanks for the response fbod!

Can't even get that stuff around here.

87, 89, 91 octane only

As I hear the distant screams from the past 3 years......

"For the Camaro SS to be successfull it must have 500 hp, be lighter than a go-cart, have a 10 star afety rating, get 35 mpg, and cost under $15k fully loaded"
