HELP! Installed headers and exhaust. Wife wont stop nagging.

Says I have to hurry up and get a cam put in now.

Help me make the right decision. VVT or LS3 conversion/cam? Pros and cons of each?

Car is a DD. 70 miles daily(M-F), 50 of which is at 80mph on the interstate. Weekend cruiser is where the fun will be had. Still want it to be reliable as a DD though. Will put in TC if needed. Prefer more power down low. What say you?

I'd stick with a vvt cam and upgrade the converter, doing those two and your options are wide open. Maybe stick with a mild sized cam and small converter though since it's a dd

Absolutely go VVT cam! You have a L99, might as well get all out of it you can.

Love my VVT cam from GPI... the HP / Torque curve is awesome with usable power everywhere...
I just have the SS1 which is a baby cam... But it makes power at all ranges and not just at 6500RPM plus....
Start shopping cams, you will see many LS3 that make more power... but take a look at what it is doing from 2500 to 6000 RPM not just at 6800.

Why don't you just drive your car 142 miles north and drop it off?

Thats kinda creepy. From my house to Vengeance is exactly 142.

Thats really the plan. I will have the work done while I am on a cruise. I spoke with David a few weeks ago but it was about a conversion and LS3 cam. Ill ask about more options next time I speak with him. They are booked until July and cruise is Oct so I have some time to figure this out.

Thansk for all the responses guys.

Your wife is under the mistaken impression a cam will quiet it down as she is embarrassed or annoyed by your lack of exhaust, I would suggest mufflers first........... and a VVT cam ls2 dogbone, and Katech C5R thrown in and a l99 pump is better than a ls3 pump so you could save on that, and if your really wanting to be noisy some electric cut outs later to flip a switch and piss her off....LOL

The deal is you may just need some gears and keeping the reliability as a cammed car necessitates changing the springs every 25k, or as I know after a over rev damn soon for a LS#3 due to mechanical over rev downshifting. You want reliable a LSA conversion is sort of reliable but limited by a stock bottom end , its pulley and its displacement along with all the other stock parts it impacts, OR better ASA cammed or hot cammed engine with low lift from chevy that has a longer life for the springs is what crate engines come with for 480 or 525 hp. With the miles you rack up, I would just gear it due suspension and some mufflers and save up for a nice crate some day..... as we can only over hone .020 with the thin sleeves that are cast into our block. GO FOR GEARS, and wait to diss the engine someday, watching and using good oil.... As building it so much more costs $$$$ and that raises the hair on the back of her neck especially when it repeatedly has to occur over the miles..

You: hey honey its got 25k on my cam I need to have the springs swapped out I need $300 for springs maybe some new pushrods for $100, a chunk of say oh $500-$1000 for the mechanic for farting around and maybe retune and some plugs and a.......

HER: Steam coming out of ears: Buy a Mustang 2t they sound nice and do 0-60 in 7 seconds.....

You: BUT HONNNEEYYYYYY..... Door Slams as neighbor gawks......

Spoke with him again today. They do not install VVT cams. Not sure what my plan is now. Still more research, I suppose. They have openings starting first week of August though.

I cant even!
It's none of my business, but may I ask why not a Veangence Kaotik Cam kit? They do it all right there including the tune plus a warranty and you live so close!. No cognitive dissonance here. Those guys are the real deal.
