Switchblade keyfob

If anyone is interested in reversing the key recall and has not been able to find anyone locally who will cut the key for you, there is an online place that will sell you the switchblade keyfob and cut it for you. Fobkeyless.com is the website. I just received my key in the mail. Programming it took about 1 minute and it works perfectly. We have one locksmith in my area who laser cuts keys for all the auto dealers and he refused to do it for me because of possible legal problems. So if I wanted the original key, I had to go this route. It took about 3 days to get the key once I punched in my information in their website. All you need is the key code which the Chevy dealer can give you. Total cost is about $60.

Unless you are wanting a extra key you can go to a hardware store and for less than a quarter buy a roll pin and change the key back to the switchblade style. It is easy to do and takes about 15 minutes. There is another thread here with pics that show you how to do it. I switched mine on the 15 model I have and I am like you that is the only way I want it.

I thought about that. But this just seemed the cleanest way of doing it. It doesn't help that I have two left hands and ten thumbs.

That includes the remote and laser cutting the blade. You just need to give them the key code.

I just bought a new switchblade key FOB for my ZL1 from my Chevrolet dealership for $58. Unbelievable that Chevrolet has a recall on these key FOB's but will sell you a new one ---

I bought a 315 piece roll pin kit from Amazon for only $11.55. Roll pins come in very handy. I fixed both of my keys as well as 2 buddies key's. Only takes about 5 minutes each.

My dealer doesn't make keys but the only place in town that makes the laser cut keys refused to cut my blank key because they were concerned about getting sued if I got into an accident because of the key. I can't speak for everybody but for my knee to hit that key I have to almost get into an impossible position.

I still have no idea how wiggling the key in the ignition causing the car to shut down is a "key" problem. This is an ignition problem, not a key problem. I've tried this several times now and have yet to have my car shut off by bumping, hitting, wiggling or any motion of the key other than rotating it to the off position. I think this was and is a very cheap solution on GMs part.

Just my .02

I reversed mine at home, from the key they supplied. Cut the plastic head off and the original key which then worked fine in the OEM FOB. Made my own roll pin from some small diameter music wire. Total cost for the reversal, was zero.
