I wonder if these car thieves are being assisted by some crooked cops working in the bay area.
Yeah I think they go into crappy cars in Oakland. They call them donks and they're pretty popular with the street crowd.

I was standing in line at the impound lot and this guy overheard my camaro got stolen. He started telling me he had camaro parts for me and offered me wheels for $200. Then he started saying the engines go for 5 grand on the street. I was pissed off, but didnt want to start anything so I just walked away.

I just got my 2010 SS three weeks ago and was planning on getting a RAVELCO system installed. After reading about purkel's misfortune this morning I immediately picked up the phone and made an appointment for RAVELCO to come out to my place of work tomorrow and install their system. The cost will be $495.00 but my peace of mind will be priceless.

Bro, i'm so sorry this has happened to you but i want to thank you for sharing your misfortune with us which in return motivated me to act. Good Luck in the future with your next ride.

kinda figured this is what would happen, hopefully your insurance takes good care of you. don't let thieves determine what you drive though!

We all know we this is how it would be found. But still.

These stripped Camaros either have to be on a flat bed or have some cheap wheels on them to tow them to where they're dumped. And no one notices a thing. If I saw a stripped or damaged Camaro being towed at night, sure as he'll I'd be following them.
Once when I was younger I found the guy whole stole my friends motorcycle, I followed him to his place. When I confronted him 2 of his buddies came out to jump me, I fought both of them off and the guy I followed there ran like a little B***H!!! Needless to say, I got my friends motorcycle back for him but it came with a price. I have the scars still to this date, this incident happened 6 years ago and I was lucky. You never know what a group of these people could do, just be careful... I got extremely lucky.

I would not have confronted them but I would call the police.

iv talked to law enforcement that works in the bay area on the alameda county auto theft team. theres not much more they can do. he said they caught someone awhile back who told them how it was being done which is how people in this thread have described it. they disable to alarm behind one of the headlights, break in and hack the computer. his advice to me was to sell my car which basically says theres nothing they can do. which is sad cause these are the people we have to defend our safety and property telling us were on our own. so i dont drive my car to the bay area. ever. for those of you who live there and have no choice i wish you luck. put a boot on your wheel and/or get revelco. the LEO did suggest revelco and i asked him but will revelco stop these guys an he said he they dont know.

OP, sorry for your loss, losing your car, and now looking at the photos of what they did to it, it makes me physically sick, the scum who do this, IMHO, well, their lives aren't worth the bullet it would take to put them down like they really deserve.

Unfortunately for us all, it is damn unlikely these scum stealing these cars will ever see any form of punishment, criminal, legal, or otherwise. They've stolen how many Camaros in the last two years in SF/O Bay area alone?? Ive heard different numbers thrown around, 20, 40 or more... this should be getting SOMEONE in law enforcement's attention!!! All we hear is crickets.

What's worse: these guys are thieves and street thugs, they're NOT rocket scientists, so who's helping them with the technology required to steal cars like this?? That fact, together with the questions "when are they going to take their act on the road?", and "we are coming SOON to other major metropolitan areas near YOU" is what ought to keep all Camaro owners awake at nights...

Just saying, its coming, its inevitable, get ready.

You are directing your angst in the wrong direction. The current climate of let's make a deal and shady lawyers are the cause of our world today.

We had a dead to rights pair of brothers who were stealing and chopping Hondas (still the #1 stolen car in the US). Go to court and the one brother plead to joyriding and some other offenses and got like 18 months max. I have no idea how long he really served. The public defender said the other brother is "disabled" (has ADHD and gets a nice fat check and an Obama phone) and was just doing what his brother did as he didn't know any better. Jury of people not smart enough to get out of jury duty felt bad for him so he only got conspiracy. Maybe 5-6 months if I remember correctly. If you do find someone stealing your car and use deadly force to protect what's yours, the lawyers make the thief the victim. This country is steadily burning down and not many are even noticing.

Revelco has stopped a few thefts. But as the numbers of installations increase they will find a work around for the harness modifications, or start flat bedding them away.

Im still shocked at how many are leaving them outside overnight. The cars are defnately being cased then stolen. Too many scenarios where it is too obvious the cars location is known. If you live in the area you need to upgrade the protection, and park in secured areas. If you have a garage park it in there and disable the opener. If you need to remove all that crap in the garage, so you can park it inside. If it remains in the open your on borrowed time.

Florida, not the only state where people store $800 of junk in the garage, And a $40,000 car outside.

Yep pretty common, I have seen 3 car garages packed. Garages are for cars.
