Let us know. So far I haven't heard anyone say they don't see it go up to 70.

that is bothersome.
Please let us know how this turns out.

I know about "taking the joy" out of new car ownership. We have a 06 Santa Fe that within 10 miles off the lot had the engine light go on. Been happening intermittently in the 3 years since. Dealer was non helpful. Service dept was insulting, at best

[QUOTE=OUR72GTO;671591]Was down 1/4 qt after 400 miles. Now full.

I guess you added oil to make it full ?

I see someone else said at only 400 miles. they were down 1/3 qt.

I now have 1,260 mis. and the oil level never moved, still Full.
I will change it at 1,500 miles.
Has anyone else seen their V6 eng. burn oil with only 400 or so miles.?

It does not seem right.

Anyone take theirs into the dealer yet? I had my oil changed recently (Mobil 1 5W30) and I'm noticing the 70 psi spikes. Sometimes it comes down while driving, but when I accelerate it jumps back up to 70 even when warmed up. But I am running the AC.

I'm thinking about taking it back to where the oil was changed to have them look at it first to make sure there is nothing wrong with the oil, but then I'm wondering if I should take it to the dealer? I have 1300 miles on it by the way.

when you accellerate, your motor spins faster, which spins the oil pump faster, which pumps the pressure up.

if it is spiking up with no load (including the a/c) then you might have something going on. but if its only when you are accellerating, thats normal for oil pressure to rise up with RPM.

Mine's the same. Hits 70 under load then drops to around 30-40 when cruising. I assumed this was normal. Higher revs make for higher oil pressure. But it sounds like OUR72GTO is experiencing something different from the norm.

When I backed out of the garage today the oil pressure was pegged and stayed that way for quite some time, more than 1 minute and less than 2. Once I got to the street the pressure was down to something below 70psi. The AC was on. Once the oil warmed the pressure followed the RPM like normal.
The car has 1800 miles on it and will be getting the oil changed on Monday.

My V-6 started doing this for the first time today. I drive about 4 miles to work and oil pressure gauge statyed at 70 psi the whole time. Just went out for lunch and the oil pressure started at 70 psi and then 2 miles later dropped down towards normal where psi changed as rpm's changed. Weird! I will definitely keep an eye on it, as I would assume bad sending unit.

My car is doing this as well. I will start the car, engine is on fast idle the oil pressure climbs to 70 psi. Then the fast idle drops to slow idle and the oil pressure will stay at 70 psi for about 2 minutes whether I'm accelerating or not. I had changed my oil at 890 miles to Mobil One 5W-30. I replaced the oil filter with a Napa Gold filter at that time. I am also concerned and will watch this thread for updates. The oil pressure will drop back down to normal (30 at idle, 45 psi under load) after a few minutes.

Hi all,

I have an M6 2LT. I am experiencing the same issue. So, I took it to the dealer. According to GM, this is NOT an issue. They published the following on their troubleshooting site for GM mechanics (I assume that is what it is).

The doc ID is referred to as #PIP4690:

/quote
Condition/Concern:
Some owners may comment that the oil pressure gauge is indicating that the engine appears to be operating with very high oil pressure.

Recommendation:
Under various engine operating conditions 60 psi (413 kpa) of oil pressure may be displayed on the oil pressure gauge. This should be considered as normal operation. In addition, during a cold engine startup (especially during cold ambient temperatures) the oil pressure gauge may display at 70 psi (482 kpa) or all the way to the right. This condition should also be considered as normal operation. As the engine and oil warm up, the gauge should return to around 60 psi (413 kpa).

/end quote

So, it appears the engine is suppose to run around 60 psi. Seems a bad design decision to place 30 psi as the center line. However, I guess everything is fine.

Well the part finally came in and I have an appointment for next week at a dealer 60 miles away. Now with 3200 miles the gauge still reads off the end at cold idle, and THE SLIGHTEST pressure on the gas pedal gets it back up there just like a tach.even when hot.
This did not happen until after the 1st 400 miles. and with the message " Engine at reduced power". That message has never come back.

Just an FYI. They ordered a part for mine. Referred to it as a switch. Guessing oil pressure switch (?). Anyway, they installed and it didn't fix the issue. Left it at dealership for afternoon and the above post is what they came up with.
