What in the hell makes you think your actions are the stuff the laws are written for? Not trying to be a dick, but go join up and live it for real for a few years before spouting off. I know for you, walking up to a tinted car means you're likely to just say "Hi" to a friend.

Now imagine it's your job to stop 12 to 15 cars a day and every (single F--ing one) is a roll of the dice. Half of them you cannot see through due to the tint. How would you feel about tint jobs then? Seriously if approaching 50% of your duties could easily kill you, how would you feel about your odds of going home and seeing your family at your end of watch. Just asking you guys to look at things from every angle not just the ones important to you.

May something bigger and smarter than us keep all of us safe. Those of us who drive Camaros, those who tune them and those whose job it is to occasionally pull one over. And before anyone says it, LEOs don't give a shit whether your car is a 2016 Camaro or a 1970 Ford Pinto. No one (and I mean No one) has time to pick on a particular vehicle.
Well put.

Besides a domestic disturbance, a traffic stop, from speeding to improper turn without signaling, are some of the most dangerous things we law enforcement have to do.

Fair enough. I came across a bit pissed off but not really at you, and I should have made that more clear. In my defense there really are quite a few angry people on here who get stopped and cited often for their driving habits and/or their mods. However, they cannot accept that they caused the situation and always complain about the Nazi cops out to get THEM. And how their cousin with the exact same car and mods, but in a different color, never gets stopped so therefore the f--king cops must have a quota on black (or whatever color) Camaros.

As someone just mentioned, domestic disputes, fights between between partners, is the one of the most dangerous things for a LEO to deal with. It can easily turn into your death sentence.

Your comment about "take my hand off my gun now" was a bit smart assed. That's OK, because I wonder if you know how very accurate you are. Approaching a vehicle with heavily tinted glass ranks right up there with domestic disputes etc. Anyway, if I had to make contact with you at night, I'd have first ordered you to (please) roll down ALL windows and anyone in the car to have their hands in plain sight and empty. I know, seems a bit over the top, but I plan to go home and see my family that night and every night. Back to the gun thing, I'd have it in my hand, behind my leg, as I approached to talk to you.

That's it. Just wanted to apologize for coming across a bit strong but also try to get you to see what it's like from the other side. FWIW, I agree 100% with your ideas on coming up with a 50 state standard tint you could have. I think it could even be a bit darker than it is now. Think of the money and hassle saved if the car companies made the glass tinted from the factory to meet these standards, like they do now with most rear glass. Better all the way around.

Drive safe, sir and when you see a cop following you or driving near you, relax, drive normal (even 5 mph over) if that's what you were doing at the time. This demonstrates you have nothing to hide. Stomping on the brakes, making a turn down some side street etc. just tells him your nervous and worried about being stopped and may be hiding something. Either way, 99% of LEOs out there, have way more pressing matters than your Camaro.

And that's all it takes.... Roll down Windows by law when pulled over. Tint laws are stupid. But I am sitting in a state where it's 110 at the moment. I respect police officers, I'd roll my windows down, hand over license and CCW card, so he knows I'm carrying. Safety first

@ Night, if I'm stopped I turn on the interior lights, roll down the window, and keep my hands on the steering wheel

During the day, I roll down the window and hands on the steering wheel.

BUT, I make sure I see that it is an officer first...

I have TX state legal tint. In our area, your tint is validate against a card to make sure its within the limits... At least where I get my inspection it is...

I live in New York and can attest to this being the sole good thing about the state.

I also have 20% tints on my 2011 Chevrolet Cruze so naturally I get confused for a drug dealing grandma on the regular. I won't be tinting my Camaro.
