Auto Transmission Impressions for V6?

Hello and this is my first post here. I'm considering a new Camaro 2LT/RS with 6spd auto for my daily commuter. I am curious what owners of the V6 and 6sd auto think about the transmission shift qualities now that you have driven it awhile. I'm curious if the Camaro transmissions are programmed for decent up and down shift points. Does sport mode work well? I currently drive a 2009 Malibu with 3.6L and 6spd auto and don't like the delayed downshifts of this car on hilly roads. I'm hoping the Camaro is better.

Thanks in advance for any comments,

you might get some replies as to "searching" but most posts show that those who have them are impressed.

Fast enough for me!!!...I haven't used the sport mode yet, so maybe someone else can give you feedback on that...
I have the 2LT/RS and LOVE it...

it is nice. The "D" mode is just a normal mode. It starts in 2nd gear and gives you maximum fuel economy. The "M" mode is sport mode. It shifts more aggressively and revs higher and also downshifts quicker if you put the pedal down while moving. If you are in "M" mode and tap the button on the steering wheel the DIC will show M1. Now you are in 1st gear and you use the buttons to shift up and down. When in tapshift mode if you slow down to a stop or yield and dont manually downshift with the buttons the car will automatically put itself into 1st or 2nd gear depending on how much you slow down.

Hope this helps you some! I love my auto 2LT

I think the 304HP V6 is flat out awesome. Plenty of power, shifts out well when needed or depending on how you are driving it. Very responsive is the best way to explain it. We have both the V6 and V8 and to me personally, the V6 handles better and is more nimble being lighter. Tends to hug the ground better on curves and not as sloppy feeling as the V8. My wife uses the V6 as a daily driver. (I still like my V8 for the raw power feeling)

I love my V8, but the 2LT V6 is the ultimate Sports Car if being used as a daily driver to me. When I drive it, I keep it in sport mode and it holds the shifts out well. The engine is smooth and quiet. The V6 has it all....power, great gas mileage, high performance, and under 30K

I am in no way bashing my 2SS RS V8 as it is my dream car. I think you will be quite pleased with the 2LT V6.

I nominate DCJ and scrming as Ambassadors for the LLT.

I'm very pleased with auto tranny, the shifts are crisp and I drive in M most times.

I believe scrming verified via his dashhawk, that the auto starts in first gear in drive or M (sport).

The gearing is a bit high for performance but in M/sport mode it really responds well. I find myself in M/sport mode most of the time. Seems to lack passing power when in sixth gear on the xway, but made that way for gas mileage. It's really fun to drive especially in M/sport mode.

It seems to be a fine transmission only limiting factor is the low torque rating. An increase of about 60 lbs of torque will put you at its limit. Although not asked, the rear end for the V6 is smaller than its manual counterpart. Don't know what its ratings are and if someone does, please post them.

yes, its sport mode, until you press a paddle, and then it changes to manual mode once a paddle is pressed

All positive comments, this is very good. I know the transmissioin is technically very good but factory programming can really affect the driving experience. A couple of professional reviewers commented on quick upshifts and slow downshifts but I assume they were not in Sport Mode. Glad to hear you can drive in Sport Mode all the time and jump to tap shift just when needed.

I wish I could test drive but hard to find a demo unit. Avis wants $173 a day to rent, ouch!

That is the best thing about the Auto Tranny...you have three Drive Mode Options....Regular Drive(D), Sport mode(S), and Paddle Shifters.

I have noticed that the V6 when in Paddle Shifter Mode when coming to a complete stop the tranny automatically drops to M1(first gear) and the V8 when in Paddle Shifter Mode when you stop will only drop to M2(second gear) automatically. So the V8 starts out in M2 with the paddle shifters unless the driver drops it down to M1.
