and the 10k difference.. also remeber the differnce in the SS and the v6... ss has alot more power and stuff rather then the GT. compare the hp of the gt to the v6 its abou the same. like 10 less so if your comparing those aspects the loaded v6 is the same price as the GT escentially. go CHEVY!!!

Let's also point out that your numbers are bad. The Camaro SS starts at $31k. In other words, the Camaro SS is in the same price bracket as a Mustang GT. Let's also not forget that the Mustang needs its suspension package in order to keep up. It only wins in the "cool" category of some magazines. Even Ford comparisons verify that there is a substantial need for improvement to keep up. Why do you think Ford is rushing that 5.0L to the market?

The Camaro is not $10k more than a Mustang. The Camaro does cost more. Wouldn't you pay more for a better product?
You cant call it a fresh design we have been seeing it for about four or five year's now. And the interior is definitly more comfy in the Mustang let alone the visibility out your window's. I could go on but I dont think some of you will be able to handle my criticism. I'm not saying either is better both have there up's and down's.

Anyways, here is my question/quandery.

I was at my local Chevrolet and Ford dealers tonight looking at 2010's. Why is there such a big price difference between the Mustang GT and the Camaro SS? I can walk into the Ford Showroom and get a GT for $28k-32K. Every Camaro SS I've seen starts in the $37K-39K range. What gives? Wasn't the Camaro supposed to be competitive with the Mustang? How does Chevrolet expect to build and sell enough of them when the consumer can just walk down the block and save $10k.

Am I missing something?

Gregg
Cuz dealer you went to probably was a rip off..
mine SS with RS and stripes MSRP was $32,710 and I got for a little under MSRP.. mustang a lil bit cheaper but you get less of a car.. less HP.. engine not as stout as the LS3
I was going to get a Mustang GT but after doing research I canceled order and ordered a Camaro SS

Definitely, I just looked b/c i was curious about the cost difference. The 2010 mustang GT has a 315 hp v8 and sells "base" for 27k, the camaro 1ss for 30k and you get 110 more hp! I might be partial on this too, but I just wouldn't make that trade! would like to get my hands on one of those shelby's though!

I can find SS Camaro's for $31,500ish, but they won't have too many options in them at all. The 2010 Mustang GT's are a decent car, but they save a nice buck on them by sticking to a live axle rear suspension and a weaker motor. The Camaro's engine is simply light years better design, and the independent rear adds price to the car unfortuneatly. Next year Ford is putting some much better motors in their 'Stangs and i'm sure the price will go up accordingly.

Being 100% non-biased here, if you break down the cars component by component, the Camaro is a much more advanced car. The engines LT, L99, LS3 are leading edge, the suspensions are excellent, the transmissions are great, paddle shifters, 22" wheels, Halo's, etc.... The Mustang is a dated platform which has been tweaked to the nth degree to get the most out of it. It is not a bad piece at all but it is outmatched in several areas.

I would love to find a Camaro 2SS for $30K, I have yet to find one with a MSRP price of less then $36k. I know, I saw one today. And from what I hear, they are selling for above sticker price.

I'm getting a Camaro, that was never a decision. As someone kicking tires, price does make a difference for me. I certainly can justify the extra $10k but what about the rest of john q public. I guess time will tell.

I can find a 2SS for under $36K. The dealer I am talking about sells at $500 below sticker for camaro5 members too. I'll go check their inventory and post it up.

They have 2 2SS's for $35,895, then 6 more 2SS's which go up to $37,875.
They also have 2 1SS's for $31,835 and $32,505

they are in western, NY just north of Buffalo. paddockchevrolet.com

4 weeks? For a SS? I don't know about that. I'm still thinking 8 weeks at the least.

first post updated. 275 lbs torque for the V6. and before anybody complains, stop bitching about the mis-quoted camaro hp in the graph already
