Fastest way to accelerate with a manual 6sp LFX ?

I was wondering what is the fastest way to accelerate with a manual 6sp LFX?

Just rev the engine up to around 3K rpms and then pop the clutch out and floor it? Since 1st gear is so short, would it be better just to start in 2nd?

I have found with this engine that you can start out in 2nd gear. Sometimes, I like to do that to save on an extra shift when I want to drive conservatively. However, I'm sure that is not the fastest way to accelerate in these cars.

From what I've read on here, 3.91's actually slow you down because our 1st gear ratio in the AY6 transmission is so short. However, I'm just trying to find out what is the quickest way to accelerate with what I have now which is a bone stock LFX with 3.27's.

Popping the clutch won't give you the fastest because you will bog down (rpm's drop low and you're not in the power band of the engine). If you rev higher and pop it, you might spin (not sure in the V6).

You have to rev it up and slip the clutch just enough to keep the rpm's up and begin to transfer the power to the road. This will burn up the clutch however if you slip it too long and it's the unfortunate thing about a manual because you're doing the work of a torque converter in a sense which the auto's have. In an auto, if you floor it, you will see the rpm's climb up immediately to a higher rpm as you begin to roll. On a manual, if you gently get into first gear and then slam the gas pedal down, the car will have to build up momentum and the rpms will slowly climb up because you have a direct link from engine to rear wheels through the gears rather than having a torque convertor in between. I'm not an expert so I'm sure others will chime in with way better facts but I'm pretty sure I'm close.

I do the same, and most times I'll also short-shift to 2nd around 5500, then run 2nd up to 60-65mph

Practice working the clutch and accelerator right up to the point of spinning the wheels. When you can find that edge and stay just under it you'll get some quick launches.

Yeah I remember reading about that back in all of the car magazines when they had evo sti matchups and were like the evo wins but only because the sti shifts twice

It's up to you now Derek.

Pump that thing up to another 10-20 rwhp and you'll sitting close to around 400 at the crank. That should shut up the L99 V8 folks. If you can somehow squeeze another 15-20 rwhp on top of that, you'll be closing in on the hallowed grounds of the LS3 guys.

However, I think that might take a good set of aftermarket cams to be available for these engines to ultimately make that happen.

Last dyno was 316rwhp. I hae added the 80mm, a new intake, and some fine tuning since then.

Dyno day is August 1st. Will be dynoing back and forth with all of the mods i have done, from stock.

Should be interesting. Only thing that sucks, is it will be on gas. No e85 that day :-(
