When is the last time you changed the tranny fluid? I starting having problems with the "2nd gear grind" this spring. I changed to 50/50 MTL&D4 and it seemed to help a lot. Now it seems like the only time I get a 2nd gear grind is when the brake/clutch fluid is on the warmer/hot side. I have 30K miles and it is still the original fluid, I am going to change/flush the brake/clutch fluid to Dot 4.

Oh my... This is bringing back bade memories.
My 2012 had the infamous 2nd gear grind. It would only do it when it was cold and by cold I mean during the winter and before it warmed up from driving. I went rounds with the dealership and they would claim to not be able to reproduce the issue half of the time. I even mounted a camera inside of the car and posted videos to youtube to prove that the issue existed. They replaced the blockers and a couple of gears but it continued. I finally got the VP of the dealership (who is also a member of the Oklahoma Camaros) to drive it and I rode with. Just as expected on a cold run...There it was! Now my issue was only when it was cold. At the time GM had a bulletin pertaining to the issue and their solution was for the customer to let it warm up first. Well, it doesn't warm up unless it is moving. Anyway, the dealership went ahead and rebuilt the tranny. Problem solved! I then took it home, drained the fluid, and replaced with RP Synchromax. |

It is the cheap factory clutch. Been happening to mine since it was brand new. Have done the GTO clutch reservoir, gone to redline D4 trans fluid. Helped but still have the problem. Friends have gone to after market clutches and have gotten rid of the grind.

Replace tranny fluid, I used Royal Purple....new brake/clutch fluid...get Tick clutch line and bleeder line...these clutch's need regular bleeding/replacing...my tranny has over 100k...still acts grumpy when first startin out...once warmed up..like butter...and have done multiple 6k 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 shifts after...zero probs...did the rear fluid too with royal purple and NO limited slip fluid...helped clean up the peg leg take offs...and peeps...please always push your clutch pedal all the way down....FYI...any syncro trans can be shifted with "NO" clutch...just learn what rpm to shift...I can do it with any syncro trans...
