Hard wiring questions.
So I have a radar detector and a new dashcam. I don't like taking up my lighter sockets so I figure I should hardwire both. I've seen other threads for doing the radar detector and have a few questions.
There's an empty fuse on the interior panel for the dashboard. So that means I can use that and they'll both be set to turn on when I turn the key just like if they're plugged in the light socket, correct? And I able to run both of them on the same fuse? And last, can I use bullet connectors so when I get a new detector (or dashcam if this one doesn't work out) I don't have to run wires and such again? |

There's also a mirror tap kit that will pull ignition controlled 12V+ from up there. Works on 2010-2012. 2013 they changed to a lower voltage.

I'm planning on doing this:
radar detector: already have mirror tap installed interior leds: already have, fuse tap on fuse f17 interior panel dash cam: ordering soon, fuse tap on fuse f18 interior panel (if I can cram it in there, otherwise, I have no idea how I'm gonna pull off the setup) if you take out the leds, this'd be the same setup you have. Can wire detector to the mirror with a mirror tap, and f17 or f18 (switched power fuses) for the camera. I'm assuming that the spares will be powered all the time, but could be wrong. If there are any spares that cut power when vehicle power is cut, that's the way I'll go for my camera just bc it's super tight in there already |

Hello. Is there a link to instructions on this? Want to go directly into mirror on my 2010 2ss. Already have the mirror tap kit. Thanks.

I added a fuse extension to my cigarette lighter. Inline fuse so it looks really nice, and not a messy install.
They are like four bucks for the adapter, and you need to buy one additional 10a fuse to retain the power to the cigarette lighter. |

Thank you for the responses. I decided to remove the overhead console(no small task) and just take a look around. Can anyone tell me what this is?

If I were to replace it with a mirror tap power cord, would it have the volts to support the radar?

I'm not sure to tell you the truth, I never tested that. I just tested the cables that connect to the "airbag" light. I don't see why you should do that, when the harness with the correct voltage is right next to it. See post #8.

That makes sense. Looked at your pics. Very clear. Thanks.
Is there a trick to plugging in the power cord? The wiring harness does not want to accept it. It just falls right out. I put quite a bit of force behind it, but I don't want to damage anything. Thanks for the help. Appreciate it. This is my 1st attempt at a mod. |

No, they're just loosely placed in there and secured by the zip tie and black vinyl tape. That I wrapped around the harness, they won't fall off if secured correctly.
