A problem around here is that you can't get a 1SS unless you order it. On the rare occasion that one shows up it has so many options it is priced in the 2SS range. I would maybe buy one because racing won't void the warranty, but it is hard to justify the cost over my 15.

I think it's split between appearance and price. I was drawn to the 5th gens because I thought it was a good combination between retro and modern styling. I don't get that from the 6th gen. And price wise I would much rather spend my money on a base C7 than another 2SS.

They are definitely restricting fleet sales, outside of the Indy 500 and Grand Prix pace/rental cars, I've seen very few 6th gens come through Enterprise. Hell, I could probably count on one hand the number of 6th gens I've even seen out driving. The new mustangs are fairly common.

You don't even have to compare it to the mustang, just compare it to 5th Gen sales, at any point. Sales of the 6th Gen are not doing well, there's no denying it and it's obvious what the reason is. It may be the greatest Camaro ever, but people arn't going to pay that much for a Camaro... it doesn't have -never will appeal to the high dollar spender.

In my opinion the 5th Gen was way too expensive for what a Camaro stands for, but they pulled it off because of the pent up demand. That demand is gone, and there is no nostalgia left.

What we now have is a very, very nice American vehicle, that is priced out of it target audience. Should have laid off on the niceties and kept the price in check.

The 6th Gen is just an ugly car, no offense. It looks smaller and less muscular, I would choose a 5th gen over it any day. The 2014 mustang isn't very good looking but the 2015-2016's are a decent sweet spot for looks.

I test drove a 2016 2ss and a 2011 2ss. I ended up going with the 2011 because of the price, for one, you can't beat all the niceties at 17k. And also because in HS i was dreaming of a 2002 v6 camaro, just for cruising, and when the 5th gen came out i was blown away.

People will even fool themselves into believing the Mustang is better (or as good) when faced with those payment options.

I know GM sold a LOT to rental fleets as I looked at a lot of Camaros before purchasing mine, and the lions share were from previous rental fleets.

What I see is the 6th Gen is in a different class than a 5th Gen. GM upped the handling, power, comfort and price. The 6th Gen SS is more like a luxury sport sedan than a traditional muscle car.

The Mustang is less refined, less powerful. less comfortable and at a fairly substantial difference in price.

I think they are apples and oranges now.
Very excellent point. But most of the public won't understand that and so Mustang will just run away with the sales. I don't mind paying a bit more for a Camaro over Mustang because when I test drove both previous gens, I could tell how much better the Camaro was in several respects which justified the cost. Now, if I was shopping, I'd be buying a Mustang mainly because the way the car looks plays a bigger factor for me now than the performance. Both cars perform very well. I just think the mustang looks truer to the "old school" and that's what I like and I think what nailed it for the 5th gen. It's the winning combination to marry those aspects.

I will say, mustang sales will probably be good in July since it is mustang week next week and pretty sure some will buy a mustang just to attend the event while others will have to replace theirs once they wreck it lol.

The 6th gen should have looked more like this:

Would just need to tone the door down a bit for producability.

I dunno, I think sales would've dropped a lot with that look. At least if it was exactly like that.

When you look at the charts, Camaro sales haven't necessarily dropped a lot, but Mustang sales have gained a lot.

Although this looks like a Mustang sized Camaro, I think I would have preferred something more similar to this for the Gen 6 than what they came up with...

I believe you'd be incorrect.

It is cost, plain and simple. The evidence that it is cost is that sales are simply not slowing. They are migrating to the Mustang and Challenger platform. Customers are saying, "For that cost, I could buy a Mustang for way less, or get the much bigger, more retro Challenger." That argument may work for Camaro loyalists, but if it were an issue with Camaro loyalists that just didn't like the 6th gen styling, you wouldn't see these huge migration numbers.

The muscle car world is on fire for everyone but the Camaro. Because it's way too expensive. They're losing the people in the $30,000 car market. At that price, get a BMW, Audi or Mercedes.

Well reading through this...it seems looks and cost are the two biggest reasons at least current owners wont move to the Gen6. LOL...its almost 50-50, so we dont need to argue further lol.

I am starting to like the looks more and more...but price. Its at least 8-10k more for an all in 2SS (versus 2011 price). Sure you get more bang for the buck, but the investment is out of my budget.
