Weird, has it been on Oahu the whole time? I looked at my Carfax and it looks like mine has.

If what the Chevy dealership says is correct then my car was in an accident and maybe the area where I'm seeing rust was fixed/welded, which might explain why the rust is creeping up...

Car Faxes aren't foolproof.
They're a good starting point but every used car a person is considering should get a thorough independent inspection by a mechanic AND a body man the buyer trusts.

Car Fax can't capture everything. For example, I could hit a tree with my car. No other cars/drivers involved. I'm OK. I call a tow truck. Have the car moved to my buddy's shop. He does body work on the side. He fixes it & I pay him directly under the table. I don't involve insurance or the law.
That situation would NEVER show up on a Car Fax.

I've even had $4,700 worth of body and mech work legitimately done at a dealership, paid for by some boob's insurance, and it still didn't show up on carfax.

For those just getting into the conversation, I did bring it back to the Kia dealership and I'm waiting to see what they tell me. I basically told them it needs to get fixed or bought back. I did talk with a body shop that said he could probably fix it, so I'm going to show them the car today to see if that's really a viable option.

I figure I need to have all my options available in case the dealership doesn't budge on anything. I'll start off with:

1. Buy the car back
2. New subframe installed
3. Rust cut out and rewelded by my shop - cheapest for dealership

I'd love to get a new subframe installed, but if it comes down to it, if I can get the rust cut out and a new piece welded in and the car has good structural integrity, I'm okay with that. The body shop I'm taking it to seems to know their stuff because when I called him he was talking about the differences in Corette and Camaro frame compositions.

Post #184 is correct. Some dealer/organizations can doctor carfaxes to make a repaired car look clean on record. I looked at a car a couple of years ago, and it had the sure signs of a front end repair, yet the car fax stated that the car was clean. I walked out of that place (just on the vibe that things didn't seem right); I listened to my gut feeling and gratefully I lucked out by not getting stuck with a lemon.

Just for notetaking, sometimes it can be trickier in buying a used car as opposed to new, in that you have to find a good car and weed through the dealer bullsh*t.

Man that sucks, so you just bought the car a week ago? And it's a 2010 Camaro? If I'm not completely wrong here I thought the 5th gen Camaro has a warranty against that kind of rust? At least I think I saw something my owners manual about the frame and body and rust? Granted mine is a 2014 Camaro but your 2010 should have the same 7 or 10 year warranty against that type of stuff? I'd check with the manufacturer, I also have a 2003 H2 Hummer and a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab 4x4 pickup truck and then the 2014 Camaro and all have either 7 or 10 year warranties against the frame and body rusting and stuff like that, I'd have to double check but I definitely remember something like that for warranties?

I'd also go back to the dealer you bought it from, because chances are they knew about that rust and didn't tell you, here on the mainland in Utah they can't do crap like that and have to disclose any major problems the vehicle has, most states also have anti lemon laws because some unscrupulous dealers sell screwed up cars and don't care about the buyer so there are laws to protect consumers so I'd definitely go back to the dealer and say hey buckwheat look what you sold me, I'd also find some kind of rust inhibitor, most auto parts stores have a couple types of rust inhibitors to choose from, but either way I wouldn't take that laying down, also if you financed the car you might be able to get out of the contract if there are provisions for this type of stuff in the loan papers? So if you financed re read your contract and you might be able to get out of it and return the car and find another to buy? Anyway there are usually laws to protect consumers especially if the problem can be a safety hazard and a frame rusting through can definitely be hazardous because it could fail while driving down the freeway at 70 mph and cause a wreck, yours might not be that bad YET? But you never know because shit happens, also I grew up around welding and mechanics and all that and even the best weld is never as strong as the original metal was before it rusted so even cutting and replacing steel is a compromise because it'll never be as strong as the original frame was.... Just something to think about

It's a 2010, yes, and I got it about two weeks ago. I notified the dealer 12 days after purchase. Chevy does have a warranty, but they looked at it and said that since the welds didn't look like factory welds that more than likely it was in an accident and the frame was repaired so the rust warranty is void.

Yep, my mustang had over $6000.00 worth of hail damage last summer, it was fixed and repainted by a "State Farm preferred shop" after I traded it for my Camaro earlier this year the dealership I traded it into put it on their website, I clicked on the free carfax link for it and it had a clean bill of health. (And by colo law I disclosed it to them) It also states they offer a buyback if you find out there was unreported damage, that might be an avenue for you to pursue.

Good thought, but I bet that's only if you purchase the Car Fax thru Car Fax, and not relying on the one the dealer gives you or the free Car Fax some dealers provide in their ads.

I differ in the opinion that there are non-factory welds in the picture you showed on page one. They look entirely factory. I would challenge anyone to look under their car. Hell, I'll do it and post pictures of my subframe.

How did the Chevy dealer determine the car was in an accident then? Or was this just their line to get out of dealing with it?
Maybe the OP can answer this.
I have to agree with you the welds look factory to me as well.

I have personally seen a 2012 rs with alot of rear quarter damage that had been repaired and done quite well aside from a slight run in the clear coat and some very slight waviness never show up on a car fax report and sold as accident free . A carfax is like toilet paper . All they do is pay a body shop out of pocket instead of Use an insurance claim or have a buddy who does body work in a shop do it .a lot of people do this to keep their record clean , insurance rates low ,and obviously improve their trade in value too. I'd tell that " used car specialist " or " pre owned manager" that he's going to have a lot more broken than his toe if he doesn't square up and make things right on the lemon he sold you
