Turbo Noob- Basic Needs

I am wanting to add power to my 2014 LS3 Camaro. I was considering a cam and headers but I have started to consider to forced induction options. I have heard that turbos are a little better than Superchargers because they dont stress the engine to create power (the whole belt driven thing). I only want around 500-550-600 RWHP which I know is doable. I want to daily it sometimes and I want long term reliability. I have looked at a number of kits (AGP, Turbonetics). I was hoping to run around 5-7lbs of boost, I know that is low-ish in the grand scheme of things.

Should I twin turbo it or would a single turbo be better? What is your opinion on kits? I have never put a turbo on a car so what supporting parts would I need? Fuel pump? Fuel injectors? I would like long term reliability and drivability.

Please help an idiot in need. I know this has probably been talked about before but when I google it, most people are going for 800-1000+HP...I dont need that much (YET ) Is there a better option that I am missing?

Thanks!

Check out the turbo threads

Everyone has a preference
If you go FI you will at least need a ZL1 pump which is good up to 700ish whp
Injectors will be up to you if you want to grow later

I am personally going to go with AGP when the time comes

AGP seems like the running theme. I am thinking about adding a catch can too. What about spark plug heat range and MSD voltage booster. I have no idea if I need either of those or what type if I do. Also, I have heard about Garrett Turbos, worth the extra $1000 to do 54/57 ball bearing turbos ?

If you are going AGP, you can order a catch can with it which I would. Depends how much power you are planning for spark plugs, they give examples on the side. I would do the MSD or ADM's FPCM. As far as turbos its up to you. If you are staying with 54/57 I would skip the BB and spend that $1000 somewhere else, maybe going bigger turbos so you can grown into them later

Yeah, adding the BB turbos and I'm closer to 10k...that $1000 could be spent on tuning/install.

Single vs twins is really more of a packaging issue. The 5th gen camaro fits twins better as there is more room to put two smaller turbos than one large one. Room for dual 3" downpipes as opposed so a single 3". As for reliability, AGP has proven to be a super reliable kit and that was the primary design around it, reliability. OEM type cast manifolds. All hot parts in areas meant to be hot with all proper shielding. OEM type turbos.

Supporting parts, nothing at all if you go AGP kit. It comes with everything down to the last zip tie, vacuum hose, heat shields, fuel, etc. Just add the fuel option. Kevin even has some tunes that are pretty much spot on for a stock car. Can bolt on the kit with no cutting/wiring/drilling/etc in about 8-10 hours, and be making 600rwhp.

AGP can answer all that on the phone. They by far have the best customer service with turbo kits. You are buying more than just a kit, you are buying service/support. Plus they have tons of dealers and supporting shops and the most active user base on here for support.

Spark plugs depend on power level. A 6-7 level plug for 600rwhp is fine. Either a BAP or ZL1 pump is fine for 600rwhp. Turbo options is all up to you, no one can answer if it is worth it. AGP can explain the differences. Is slightly quicker spool and a bit more power capability worth $1000 to you? If you are just going for 600-700rwhp I would say no, spend the money on install, fuel, or meth.

Thanks for all the info!! I really appreciate it! The $1000 question was more about whether the quality was that much different, I understand they're supposed to spool a little quicker. I just know the Garrett name, so I wasn't sure if the quality was that much better or you're just paying for the name. I am strongly leaning AGP at the moment. The fact that the work can be done in a weekend is an advantage I really like.

I too have a CAI intake, did you purchase your kit directly through AGP or did you get it from someone like JDP?

On the AGP kit the intake goes down in the area....Looking under the hood you cant tell two turbos are strapped to the engine
