I'm in the same boat. My battery is over 5 years old with no signs of degradation.
I have no intention of replacing it until it shows signs its getting weak or it fails. |

One of the cheaper maintenance items. Replace it and don't look back!

Cheap? I don't consider a battery that costs nearly $200 cheap. I'm used to paying $100-120 tops for a good battery. These things have their own battery size unique to them.

I'm with the others that mentioned it, buy an AGM (they are amazeballs).

It's called preventive maintenance, like changing your oil. The first model 5th gen productions are approaching 7 years, replace the battery now or pay double or more when it leaves you stranded somewhere. For many, the Camaro is their daily driver. Wife and kids stranded at the Movies at 10PM in a garage somewhere? $1,000 Smart phones, $100-$200/mo in random utility bills, $50 gas bills, even if the battery was $300 it would be cheap compared to the alternatives that can happen if/when we let one completely die 100% before replacing it. There is absolutely no way I would risk myself or a family member getting stranded to save a couple of months on a battery that is already past it's usable life, none. |

If you are noticing a pattern of weak starting and/or battery drain then you can replace the battery. If your parking situation permits it, look into getting a battery tender. Tenders help extend the life of a battery (essential for a car that sits for long periods).

Battery on my last Grand Prix lasted 9yrs through killer winters. At that point, it was because I added an aftermarket Ipod adapter that had a slow ground leak or something. When I went on holiday in the winter, two weeks sitting killed it. Never the same after it was jumped. I will let you all know when this one fails on my 2011. It's on a tender for about 5-6mon over the winter so maybe that helps. No signs of weakness yet and I have no intention to replace it unless there are signs.

I replaced my original battery in April. Bought the car in July, 2011. Got a comparable Interstate battery. My 'vert usually sits in the carport under her cover between November and April - only have 8k miles on her but didn't want to chance it. Now I don't have to worry about for the next 5+ years.
Like you, any OEM battery I've ever had died within a few years - one new car's battery died 2 years after I bought the car! I'd change it. Car "problems" NEVER occur at an opportune time.

i just got my stock battery checked and they said it performed better than was posted on the battery and that there is no need to replace it because a new one would perform just the same (2010 camaro 26,000 miles)

Recently came back from a 2 week trip and my battery was dead. Drove it to work the next day and it died again. So i ended up replacing it to avoid any unfortunate situations. 2011 camaro LS, 55k miles.

Damn... Cheap ain't right! Just checked pricing at Pepboys. Only saw two available, $186 or $220. Wow, I'm used to paying $70 - 100 for a battery. Maybe I will wait to replace.

My original battery did not even last 2 years and I keep a tender on it when I am not driving it. It went out on me on a long trip. I could hardly touch it when I went to change it out, because it was so hot. Obviously, it had a short. The electrical system in the Camaro is so cool. It went into battery saver mode and I did not get stranded out in the middle of no where. I replaced the original with the Autozone H7-AGM Platinum battery for $224.99. Nothing is too good for my baby.
