If I had to replace my Gen5, I truly prefer the Gen6 Mustang over the Gen6 Camaro, but it's the volume of Mustangs on the road that would make me reconsider.

How many Gen6 Camaros were there?

I can tell you that the power delivery is very linear, just like the S197 and that you definitely know you're driving a Mustang due to the seating position. That's pretty much the only similarities. The S550 is a lot more refined and smoother. The main handicap though, as with nearly all IRS setups, is with wheelhop. Once that is addresed, they plant and hook damn near as hard as their solid axle bretheren. I haven't driven or ridden in a 6th Camaro, but it is noticeably smaller on the outside.

I just got a 79 Trans am a few months ago as I always liked those cars, and it has a 403 engine with headers, cam, and k/n filter with 355 rear end. this car runs good, and is loud, but for the purpose, gas mileage and cost wasn't the issue for a part time driver.
so which one is actually faster?im thinking its pretty close between the two.

This thread has seriously jumped the track. Even when the V8 guys were making fun of themselves the V6 guys got offended! What do you call that? Reverse butt hurt? Double reverse backwards butt hurt? Good grief.

I priced the Fifty on the Chevy site & it's so expensive that the LT coupe would cost what I paid for my Commemorative SS convertible.

We should make it more interesting by merging this thread with the 'Why didn't I get a V8' thread.

Its getting to the point where I'm going to buy vehicles a year or 2 old. I'll let someone else take the initial hit. It to bad...the Mustang and Camaro used to be the car any average joe could buy. Not anymore....the 16 SS is 60 large where I am. I'm not doing that.

im guessing i should clarify...between the 79 trans am and the v-6 camaro.im sure the SS would beat both of them.the 79 used a smogged olds motor, and unless other mods were made im thinking it would be a close race.not trying to offend the OP,just curious.

It would be great to see a drag race between a 1979 Trans Am 400 & a 5th generation Camaro V6 (stock vs stock).

The Camaro is at least a full second faster than the olds powered T/A.
