15-pages FTW!!!

I'll stop stirring the pot

I only did it because of the "overkill" statement made on the other thread

This thread has attracted a better bunch and really well written post!

My to all those that did that...

Common sense wins again. Imagine that.

I also think a lot depends on where you came from. For example, I was never a "gear head" in my younger years. I always bought new, or almost new cars and never felt the need or desire to tinker with them. I was shopping for an Accord when I happened on this Camaro .

I wanted to get out of my high mileage BMW that is ANYTHING but fun to work on. I thought I would enjoy tinkering on the Bimmer, fixing little things etc. but I swear German cars are designed by the Devil herself.

So then I see this Camaro.... Just happened to have a V6 in it. I am generally a conservative person, so I thought that would be fine. I bought the first Camaro I found, but I researched hundreds of others before I made the deal. I didn't even consider a V8. Just way more than I need to haul my fat ass to work and back. So yes, economy did fit into the equation.

But then I found this site. Holy sheite! People still tinker on and upgrade cars?! How cool is that?

Now I am having a LOT of fun tweaking my ride. Nothing major, but bolt-on's do seem to make quite a difference in the enjoyment factor of a Camaro. Working on the car has so far seemed straightforward, and not too taxing largely because of all the help here on camaro5.

Now some of you guys are so far above the average Joe, it's absolutely amazing! You have cams, tunes, turbos, and a car full of custom this and that. I can see why you might resent what I would describe as us bolt-on piddlers invading your space, but that is just a perspective. Perspectives can be changed.

If I know something someone else doesn't I like to share. I think most do, which is what makes camaro5 such a huge success IMHO. A lot of like minded individuals with a common thread sharing the trials and tribulations of what for many is a mundane topic.

Bottom line, once again JMHO, is that as soon as you strap on that first CAI or exhaust or even just a new stripe on the hood, you become something of an enthusiast. And not only is the forum a fun place to share, it also drives sales. I would have NEVER considered an $1,100 suspension upgrade without someone here pointing out the benefits.

But from what I have seen, it's a small fraction of people who are just intolerant to another's choices, or lack of commitment level. I would love it if I had the resources to put together an SS with a custom build and tune. And someday I might. But I think if you took a poll, you'd find just as many DD's here as Garage Queens. And if you don't like me because I have a V6, well...that's your problem and your loss.
I think that ones background goes a long way in the choice they make. I myself grew up in a family that built and showed street rods. I have been turning wrenches from an early age. I even believe that is how I ended up being an engineer.

I didn't consider a V6. I have nothing against them as I have an infinity with a V6 and have had many other cars that were daily drivers which had various engines and performance levels. My SS is not a daily driver, hell Im lucky to drive it more than a couple of days a week (work all the time and will not park it at work). So in my case with the car being an extra car to enjoy, the SS was perfect.

I love my car for many reasons with the least being what others think of it. I bought it for me as most do. When it comes down to it enjoy your ride for how it fulfills your needs and desires. Does anything else really matter?

One last thing Mr. Stacy. I put an e in Stacy by mistake before. The weird thing is Stacy is my last name. You would think I would at least get that right.

I just get tired of the justification threads. I couldn't care less what you drive. If it works for you fine, just dont try to justify to me, I don't give a $#π. I like mine, and you should like yours
