How much tread do I need for the track
I was wondering how much tread you guys burn at the track. I'm going to the first time this September in the ZL1. Wondering how much tread I need and my rear tires have about 2mm till the treadwears. Think they need to be replaced before ?
I'm on a larger track (mosport) so it's supposed to be easier on the car wear wise (is what ive been told). It's a whole day performance driving course on and off track. What do you guys think ?

Your right foot, hands, and the clock determine your tread need IMO.

Most of my weight seems to be in my right foot so that may be a problem.

You need new tires before you hit the track.
Why you ask? A brand new tire has more grip than a worn out tire. As the tire ages and wears so does the tread compound. If you have factory GYs that statement is an understatement. By the time those super sticky when brand spanking new out of the mold GYs are a year old, the tread compound has chemically aged to the point it has lost half the grip it had. This is true even if you never drove on iot and kept them in your living room. The tire continues to cure with the rubber getting 'harder' every day. The inside shoulders wear faster that the center section and outside shoulders, especially in the rear. You will have wasted a lot of time and money on your HPDE is you find the cords showing after your first session. Get new rubber all around and if they are the factory style GYs make sure all four have the same born on date and newer is better! Next, how old is your brake fluid? |

I have 3 year old GYs. I've done 3 HPDEs on them. I'm more aggressive than average, but not a racecar driver. I just finished an HPDE and that's probably all they've got left. I could feel the loss of traction towards the end of that event. My car has about 10k on the clock. Just data for your reference.
