Screwed up my intercooler install - but fixed it
I traded in my 2013 Camaro ZL1 on a 2016 Corvette Z06/Z07/M7 back in June. I decided that I should add a larger intercooler reservoir to my Z06. After I did the install I had reduced power and there is no code or DIC message. I figure out how the bleed the system.
http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...post1592871652 https://youtu.be/QgNS9fVJbco This is related to my Camaro ZL1 because I replaced the heat exchanger first with a Ron Davis unit and then with an AFCO. I never got the intercooler coolant flowing. The system will not self purge if the pump cavitates or if there is excess air. There are huge threads on this, on the Corvette Forum. My heat exchanger installs were a waste, since the system was not purged. I hope this information and my bleeding method helps you guys out. http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...-shutdown.html http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...velopment.html

Very interested...
So I have a RD HX and I put the D3 reservoir tank on as well. How do I check to make sure I don't have this issue?

The solution is really straightforward. Your car should still have the intercooler fill port (the jiffy-tite fitting at the top) even with the D3 reservoir. In your case, take off the cap on the D3 reservoir(leave the intercooler fill port closed), and start the car. If the coolant is not coming out of the top hose into the D3 reservoir, you have the problem. Solving your problem is the same as if you didn't have the reservoir. Buy 18" of 1" inside diameter vinyl hose. I bought mine at Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) but Home Depot and other stores may have it. Take off the intercooler fill port and push the hose onto the fitting(do not remove the D3 reservoir cap). This will take some effort. It helps to leave the hose in the sun or heat it up a bit to make installation over the intercooler port easier. This should be a water tight seal. Start your car and wait 10 seconds. If coolant does not start rising in the tube, then add distilled water/dexcool mix to the vinyl hose. Only fill the vinyl hose half way. The system should start to purge. You should restart the car atleast 4-6 times. Each time you turn the car off, wait for air bubbles to rise up. Squeeze the intercooler hoses to help the purging. Eventually the system will stabilize like at the end of my video. Once the intercooler coolant looks relatively clear (not like the bubbly foamy consistency in the beginning of the video) you should be go to go (the 5:18 mark in my video). Mine would rise up to the top of the vinyl tubing (about 11 inches) then drop down, when the car is turned off. I would test the drive car, get it good and hot and repeat the process just to make sure. If the coolant rises and then drops(or looks whitish/foamy) while the car is running, there are still air pockets. You will have to repeat the process over the next few days. Let me know how it works out.

I run the rotofab/lingenfilter resv... I watched the
Fluid circulate when I first put it on ... Could see the air pockets pushed out... |

Same here. I am able to turn the pump on with my Aeroforce gauge and I can hear and see it circulating. I watched it push out air pockets as well... I'm not sure where the problem would come in if you have an aftermarket reservoir. |

How do you turn the pump on with the AF gauge? Didnt know they could do that.

I couldn't get it reliably air free even with the rotofab tank. I bought a vacuum filler and filled it that way.

That's crazy. I don't get how it wouldn't push out the air. I literally watched my same setup push the air out. Last edited by jayno20; 08-19-2016 at 04:11 PM. |

Has anyone else had an issue like this while using a reservoir?
