Lost key

So under not the greatest of judgement my car came with only 1 key and I never had another one made (dumb) and now I've lost the only key to my 2012. What's the best option to get a key made and not have to tow the car to the stealer ship?
Thanks all, not what I wanted my first post to be

Maybe have a locksmith come out? Probably going to cost you a bit though.

They can have new keys made from your VIN so they can get them before you go there. But if they aren't mated to the car all you can do is unlock the door and set off the alarm.
When you get it to the dealer make sure they delete the missing keys.

If you have Onstar or an auto club they will probably cover the cost of the tow.

Or you could get lucky and find your key. I found my wallet in the laundry hamper days after I cancelled all the cards (and I know I looked there).

I have to believe the programming will be limited to GM dealers.

Locksmith is good for safe or anything that is old. You should have listen to Fred, save time and money.

Does it matter ? He still can't start the car with out the key . If he's sleeping in the car it would be great if the doors are unlocked .

Lost key

My car only came with one valet key and one switchable key. I bought a blank switchblade key on eBay and took it to my local locksmith. The key was $40 and the cutting was $85! I did the programming myself which took all of 10 seconds. Unfortunately, it's very expensive no matter what!

A locksmith can cut the key, but cannot program it. And to program to the car, you need a working key. Best bet in your situation is to have it made by a dealer and they can program it based on your VIN.

Reach out to Maureen at Rodgers Chevrolet, they can take care of it.

OP is going to go through hell and high water to replace his key. ...Then he will find the one he lost.

Easy to get a key at the dealer. Take proof of ownership to them and they can look up the key code for you. Then with that a key can be cut and your car reprogramed.
