WHAT ARE THESE?? HELP

My baby (2011 L99) was making a hissing noise almost like the sound of an aerosol can spraying right around the rear axle so I went to the shop today and they said it was this part *shown in picture* I think the spring on this valve deal was rattling i couldn't stand it. So after they removed it, the sound did go away but I have no idea what it is...So what are the pros & cons of removing this piece? Maybe im just being picky but I feel like I lost a little power on initial acceleration?? Thanks guys!

-PS the car sounds 5 times better now, more aggressive tone, before they took it off the lift they were revving it up and all the other customers turned thier heads and gave thumbs up! Lol just thought Id throw that out there

No problem bud. I think it is not about power lose it just feels different. yet I did read something like with better exhaust flow you are losing low end torque but no idea on how truth is it.

They are to change the tone when in V4 mode. My 15 silverado has one as well. When there is little pressure on them they shut and prevent the Honda noise.

Apparently it's a butterfly valve that is only on the stock L99 convertibles to "keep it quiet" with the top down.. been driving without it for a few days now and I love it
