Rear rumbling noise
I have a 2013 Camaro V6 and when you get the car up to about 50 mph I hear a rumbling sound coming from the rear. I took the car in and they rebalanced the tires, they are Nitto Motivo's, and checked the brakes. All checked out fine, I get it back today and it's still doing it. Any ideas on the problem? Doesn't do it at a lower speed but does it at 50 and higher but no vibrations.

Are your tires directional/same size front and rear ? If all 4 corners are the same, can you rotate front and rear to rule out any tire related issue ?

No they are staggered on my Camaro. They are 245 in front and 275 in rear.

Are the tires new? My BFG's had much more road noise than the Continental's I replaced and it bothered me for a bit until I was sure it was them.
Rumbling sounds can also be worn carrier bearings in the diff though that's a stretch but not impossible. If you've done any work to the car recently or had anything replaced, that's the place to start looking.

Yes the tires are new. They are Nitto Motivo. I like the tires but the rumbling gets to be a bit much the faster you go. I just want to be absolutely sure it's not a rear end going out or a drive shaft etc. The car only has 22k miles on it too.

jameses861,
Did you ever figure out where the noise is coming from? My 2013 2LT Hot Wheels has started making a rumbling noise. It started out intermittent at speeds of 80 or above. Sounds like you're running over the noise maker strips on the shoulder of the road. It has progressively gotten more pronounced. I suspect a drive shaft or axle shaft. I recently installed a cat back exhaust and thought something may be vibrating against the chassis but the noise stays there when I push in the clutch. Doesn't really sound or act like a tire noise but I guess it could be. Pirelli P Zeros. Car has 20,000 miles. |
