2010-2013 Afterburner Taillights from Gen5Diy

I don't think I ever posted about these awesome lights here. These replaced my POS Technostalgia lights, which I was already having trouble with all 8 of. (2 sets because they are junk and I kept needing to part others out, since the model was discontinued)

Before buying these I was spectical because I couldn't find pictures of the lights off vs braking vs running lights, so here's just some idea of what they look like. I do miss the sequential turns but I don't think I would add them to this set up

Lights on:

At an angle:

Lights off:

Brakes & running lights on:

Brakes only (a lot more obvious in person, you can obviously tell if I'm braking):

All off again:

Previous lights for reference

Only problem I had was one bulb's contact went bad on me, to get the lights to work properly the regular running bulb light is changed out for another bulb and has a contact cut so that it is only a brake light and not a running light. I changed out the bulb and copied the modification, then had no problems. I always recommend gen5diy.com, they stand behind their stuff and will help you out with any issues. I don't think they make the lights anymore but still felt they deserved a positive review and just wanted to show off their lights a bit.

They look great.

Side Track- What tire sizes are you running and brand. I'm about to get the M228 Rims but haven't had much luck on finding ZL1 tire size setup.

+1 on the awesome plate

Does anyone still make true afterburners like these? They are way better than the ones that just have a line of leds.

they look really good!

not sure if i got an early build set, but mine looked so sloppy and improvised up close... i installed one of them and instantly sold them... still looking for a solution! been through technostalgias condensation, been through AAC's burnt out LEDs, wasnt satisfied with these, and now im just running stock tails with 144smd leds :-(

There are some minor imperfections but nothing too bad. In the first picture you can see that the light bleeds through the center piece, or what I guess you can call the brake/turn signal light reflector. It's not bad enough for me to complain. Very up close there are definitely some details that aren't perfect though

I think I have same problem!

Do I have to buy a new bulb (prod #?) and how do I modify? See pic. Left light is not on.

Your review is spot on! I too have never posted about these afterburners from Ofer, mind you I have been away for a couple of months or so...

I'm glad I ditched the POS Technostalgias for these concept afterburners from Ofer at GEN5DIY.

My only complaint about these concept afterburners, was that the brake light's lumen power, was too low for my liking. The afterburner lighting was BRIGHT, but such was not the case with the brake lights(and thus the turn signals).

The solution: I upgraded the incandescent brake light bulb, to a high powered 50W Cree LED bulbs, and this did the trick, although I think that something like 80W CREE would be even better, but man those are expensive!

If you install LED's for the brake/turns, due to the way Ofer has wired them up, be sure to install 3156LED bulb, and not the 3157, although you can always modify a 3157 to a 3156 by cutting off one of the appropriate metal tabs on the bulbs base .

Note* By default, the afterburners are LED's but the brake/turn's are incandescent.
