I will post some videos of the results. We test bumped the Box today on a JL 1200/1 and it was loud enough that any microphone is going do distort pretty badly.

A build like this would probably cost 7000-8000$ with labor and parts from my understanding if you got everything new and had to pay for full labor. I do not know what I have into everything total, could easily be over $5,000. I would not be surprised if I have over $3000-4000 in just parts.

I have not driven the car yet, but I am sure all of those will be true to a large degree. We still need to do the doors!

I did the floor and roof of the car too, so I went a little overboard. I could easily have 120-160 square feet of dampener when this is finished.

Box Day, Day #3:

Door Adapters:

Box:

Test fit without double baffle and some finish work to make sure we didn't screw up measuring...

Again, work in progress... Project isn't finished. Hopefully we will be finished by Thursday morning. We did test bump the box in a room with a 1200/1 and it sounded really good. We wired the coils up to 4 ohms ( showed 2.96 ohms in the box in the car) and test-ghetto rigged them (just for fun) to one channel of the stock 6x9s and it was actually pretty loud(audible over the stock speakers) on 20w rms! We cant wait to get the project finished!

It's like driving a different vehicle. There is zero sound deadening in the Camaro.

Little high, but you're in the ballpark. A complete Dynomat installation runs about $2,000 including the Dynomat (5 cases). Most reputable places will bill out an hour each for radio and fronts, 2 for rears and 5-6 for custom sub box and miscellaneous wiring. From here it gets tricky, if you purchase supplies from the retail shop they'll cut you a general price break on the entire purchase.

Good job on the KnuKonceptz wiring

Sub box looks too thin, what wood was used? Also curious why they built a removable box instead of integrating one of the left/right cavities and retaining trunk space.

Don't forget to pick up an AGM battery and am intrigued in the power wire management pictures in the battery hole when it's all buttoned up.

It is 3/4 Birch and baffle is doubled. I felt that we could get enough space with a removable box and decided to go that way in case we ever wanted to race the car. I didn't want to build a one-note-wonder SPL box; I wanted a musical box that would sound good all around. I am really happy with it, but we have not listened to it inside the car yet on real power. The box didn't flex at all on the test bump, so I don't think we needed to go with a thicker material. I do not have the electrical yet to throw huge power at this, and we were trying to minimize weight and maximize internal volume.

Most of my wiring is Sky High OFC, but I have some other 10ga OFC going to the sub. I tried to get the best wiring and RCAs that I could swing!

I have an XS Power Battery. I might need to upgrade my alternator or do some more electrical, but we were trying to save as much weight as possible for now.

Love the 3/4 Birch myself, good choice. Same sonic quality as MDF at half the weight.

Unfamiliar with Sky High, but looks like a clone of KnuKonceptz and quick reading looks like quality stuff.

Good call with XS, you'll be fine up to the 1,500w range. Rule of thumb is dimming lights when bass hits as I'm sure you already know.

well I understand that some folks want a stereo, I used to have a stereo (still have the parts -Zeff Audio amps)) that won Crank It Up in Dallas 1989 stealth install. However today I listen to my LS7 burble.

You can lay down some music Chris, but you'll never put a whoop-ass on Corvette Coupes from C6 and C7 land again..

all the extra weight (MDF box = heavy; then again so is 13 layer birch). For grins are you going to weigh the car and tell teh forum how much you added back??

Honestly, There are a few C7s that already lose to cars that I have beaten... I have a friend that has a cam only ( cam motion solid roller) LS3 and a full stereo and he could walk a C6 or C7 with probably 3 passengers... I am not scared of what a few lbs is going to do because we are only really adding 3/4s of a full man's weight here and I roll with passengers all the time. I cannot speak to anyone else's car here but I have video of pulling 475 rwhp 5th gens and staying with 480rwhp terminators... bone stock.

I will build an ERL block and spray a 300 shot if that is what has to be done... My friends feel that headers/tune will more than make up for the ~200 lbs I might have added. The box isn't really that heavy. One person can easily lift it and carry it around with the sub installed. The box is Birch and not MDF. I am blown away with how awesome it sounded outside of the car in a large room... It could play everything pretty well and it was pretty loud on less than half rated power.

My car will still weigh less than a stock ZL1. Starting with a light weight 5th gen has a few big advantages...

Yep! it is extremely similar. If we need more power, I am going to get a 270 or 320 amp alternator and that should fix the problem with only adding minimal weight ( I would probably add a 2nd wire to the back and new grounds up front...we are going to do the rear ground upgrade right now). If I still need more power I will get a super cap bank or the XS 15k lithium battery.

Hopefully we will have them up and working tomorrow. We finally got the amplifiers installed and working correctly, but had a few issues running them linked. Apparently the terminals on the sub are marked backwards and + is really -. When we hooked up the amps linked they didn't seem to output sound. As soon as we unhooked the RCA from the linked amp, the primary played fine. We rewired the amps to strap them instead and we were fine. Everything worked ok. We threw the DD1+ on them and I set the gains to a +10db overlap. The deck seemed to clip at 22 out of 40!

We played a few songs with the stock mids just to see how it sounded and we were pretty happy. We think we are in the 146-147 range but didn't have a termlab available to test.

We have to clean up some of the wiring and do some finishing work still on the back, but you can see it all coming together.
