I think the idea is that you can get yourself a V8 without having all the bells, whistles, and gizmos being mandatory, a "stripper" so to speak (or as close as we're going to get to a stripper in the 21st century).

The bottom line is you get to choose the general level of features you want independent of which engine. It also works this way on the Corvettes. Whether you choose base model or Z06, you have the option of the 1LT, 2LT, or 3LT option group with either. Only for the Camaro, what would have been called the 3LT package has been renamed "RS" in a nifty nod to heritage. That's my take on it, anyway.

WHy?

Hey dont get me wrong...i apologize to everyone...sorry about that
I love Camaro...and have one myself....and iam just as excited about this car as is everyone else....but Something just looked really different to me when I first saw these pics and i noticed right away....this car does not look mean and as aggresive as the one we've been used to seeing all over the internet for a long time now. The front seems pretty much the same for the exception of the headlights....the turn signals were on the outside before and now thier on the inside...which really doesnt make a noticable difference to the front look of the car....and also is the concept wider? ....or am i just imagining it?

And from behind....it doesnt look so intimidating anymore....someone said they had to put that bump in the rear for crash purposes....well if thats the case.... then why isnt the corvette all pointy from behind....i just think they should have rounded and smoothed it out as much as they could....its so obvious....i noticed that right away and iam sure others will too...and where are those huge exhaust pipes? Something looks different about the tail lights too? They could have made it look closer to the concept by placing the reverse lights next to the license plate like the corvette rather than sticking them out there and saying.... look...here i am. Does anyone else agree with me on these little details ?.....that would have made a huge difference. Those reverse lights really are an eye sore on whats supposed to be a smooth sexy behind.

Iam not trying to put the car down...its a beautiful car....legendary.....just wanted to get everyone elses opinion

Well the reverse lights have been covered a zillion times, I'm pretty sure there is a post from 'father around here somewhere that says that is the ONLY place they could have put them and still have the car be legal, or something along those lines...

As for the 'huge exhaust pipes' If you ever looked closely at them the actual exhaust was just regular exhaust, the huge chrome pipes you're talking about were basically a cosmetic cover for the actual pipes, the true pipes could be seen if you looked into the larger chrome ones.

They kept the car as close to concept as possible, nothing was changed on a whim, everything had a reason, its been discussed over and over and over again.

Im amazed how close it is to concept. THIS IS IT people, our camaro, it's here. Be Excited.

you could probably put that chrome on through a customization shop as well anyway...

i'm certain there will be companies offering parts to reproduce the concept as much as possible i'm certain...

companies probably can't wait to make "bumblebee" kits and what not

And I hope it will be possible as soon as new Camaro becomes available in the US (february), AT MOST march '09. I can't wait any longer
I have confirmation from GM Europe (email correspondance) that the new Camaro WILL be imported in Europe. They could not give me any more information other than that though.

A few hours left for the official reveal ^^ I think it 's gonna be aired at 0900 local time, so I have like 45' of viewing pleasure beofre I go to work.

Be sure to update the post with all the OFFICIAL info for the car after this. Thx!
