Practice, practice, practice...that's the only way you are going to improve. LC is terrible don't use it at the track. Like stated above, TC and Stab off, rev to around 3-4k depending on track conditions and rapidly SLIP the clutch while keeping RPMs up. The car should 60 in the 1.6xs all night on those tires. How much of a burnout are you doing?
https://youtu.be/1d0T2eBuJ1w I have similar mods as you do. 1.7 60 on 20"s. Remember sometimes smooth and slow is actually fast. Last edited by crazydave; 10-13-2016 at 06:35 PM. |

There's a sticky by Pro Stock John in the "Dragstrip and launch technique" channel that you might want to check out if not already done so.....

You need slicks on 17s.

Good call....
I went from "rowing" to A6. Will never look back. The A6 thinks and act faster then you can. PTM 3 all the time.

It's definitely not the car...With or without LC it's all in a smooth clutch release...You're just not getting the power to the pavement...Where I live we have a shitty 1/8th mile track, never prepped properly so my car will never make a pass there...There is so much power in 1st and 2nd gear that if I go full throttle it breaks the rear loose and spins thru 2nd gear, my safe gear is 3rd, this is where I can go full throttle and the rear end not break loose, at least I can't feel it if it does and the car stays straight...You may also need to run a lower tire pressure, what one car runs may not be what's needed for another car...I would decrease tire pressure by 2pds after each pass until it starts to hook on launch once you find the pressure happy spot you should be able to launch harder and not want to sell your car...It's just like leaving on a green light on the street, just a more aggressive launch...

There isn't much I can add that has not already been said in this post on how to launch these sleds in manual. Practice, Practice, Practice after you find the sweet spot. And remember the track conditions & prep will always change and you have to adjust.
I am still not consistent. I average 1.6-1.7 sixty. Should be 1.4-1,5 with the power I'm putting down so I'm no expert. 5500 launch rpm with clutch slip and get into the gas smoothly with a purpose as that nose comes up. Great feeling when you get that going, you will know you're on a pass. Make quick shifts at consistent rpm points. Shift light will help here. Get all that going then you can start working on the tree. That's another chapter in a manual. Stick with it Man or hit a road course or autocross and enjoy this amazing Ride

Well thanks for the words guys I appreciate it. I was pretty frustrated, and still am but I think Ill get it I just need a lot of practice. Was planning on cam and corn within the next couple weeks, thats now completely out the window until I can get it to hook and launch. If anything my next round will be a brake conversion and 15" welds and full slicks. Im done putting money into power for now.

I would try a combination of drive settings. I found in my old (2013) 5.0, I had to keep TC on from launch to third gear, then turn off when shifting to 4th. I was able to get a 12.7 @ 112 on a slow track (Carolina H.o.H.) with a STOCK 5.0, granted I am an experienced racer. Just tweak many times and, obviously, practice. But, don't just practice for the sake of it. Log your actions and group your results to make you more intelligent about your car with each pass.

Don't know if this is BS or not because I don't drag race but I saw YouTube video of a guy launching in second gear using a manual and getting much better times off the line

1.5x is doable with a SC M6. I do it all day.

OK so I'm a crap driver too.
1st race I spun like hell and missed 2 gears. Got beat by Mustang. 2nd race I beat the pants off a yellow corvette and got warned for going too fast with no roll bar. 3rd race I let off and still beat this VW 4th race I tried coming out harder and nose dived. 5th race I slept at light, nose dived and got beat by my own corvette. (it's an automatic) 6th race I came out real hard and really nose dived. I'm thinking i need to pull fuses 40 and 43 so traction control is really off but I'm pretty sure that I just need to feather the clutch instead of dumping it. Regardless the problem is my driving skills not my ZL1! I love my car and will never sell it. I can't wait until next spring to go and try again. I know my car is capable of high tens. So far 11.325 is my best. That is still faster than any car I dreamed of owning!

You might want to work on the RT as well. Should be 0.050 or better. Try starting your launch when the second yellow goes out and experiment from there.
I have hit two 0.0001 RTs this year. All luck. |
