Not compatible with windows 8, or windows 8 and newer?

How about some windows 10 support?

With windows, you should be able to set the 'compatibility' mode. That is very odd. That would be a deal breaker for me. Hope the fix that...

Definitely can for the program, however I'm having problems connecting to the PAC-UP module. Never gets recognized so it is probably a driver issue. The program installs fine.

Ok, so the question I suppose is what operating system did those who did their own upgrade use?
All of my current in use computers run windows 10. I do have an XP and a windows 7 computer that I could fire up.

I was able to do the update using windows 10 no problem. It recognized the updater and the pac unit. Say's version 3 on the updater when i bring it up.

Now to the problems. I have the Pioneer head unit and I can program all the controls just fine except when I get to the answer and end call functions. They just don't work. I am using Android and need to activate Google Voice. If you look on page 6 of the PAC instructions i get to the phone menu, which programs in OK, but then nothing after that. Am I not doing something right, or am I missing something? I spent about four hours this afternoon repeating the programming sequence with no success. I have the unit in aftermarket mode. One of the programs for Pioneer is "VR". What does that mean?

Oooh. Don't like the sound of that.

Have you tried http://avic411.com/ about the VR mode thing?

I checked out the "AVIC" site. No information there and not much activity.
I am beginning to think it stands for "virtual reality" because its really not there.
I think from my searches it stands for "Voice Record" which should bring up Google Voice or Apple voice whatever it is. (sorry, don't do Apple so not sure what it is called). I'm going to send a query to PAC and see what their definition of VR is since they printed the instructions.

I am inclined to believe that its a problem with the Pioneer head unit and the PAC interface. I don't believe that PAC has Incorporated all the required commands required for the Pioneer. I have sent them a email informing them of the problem and requesting a resolution. Ill let you all know when I hear back from them.

My head unit is the Pioneer AVIC5100NEX. I told him I was pretty sure it was since there is a wire for it and a function in the menu for auto dim.

Follow-up on the Display auto dimming issue with the headlights on/off. Received a new PACS module, same thing. The input wire for triggering the radio display stays +12 regardless of headlights turning on / off. Installer bypassed the PACS module and connected to the a wire coming from the headlight switch and the display functions properly and dims when the headlights are turned on. No clue why 2 modules would not work. At least the Pioneer head unit is functioning properly now.

For those wanting to place your microphone and Antenna into the area where the center speaker is located here is what I did (sorry no pictures yet, but I'll try to take some later today when I go over to the shop).

First i removed the center speaker (2 screws and disconnected the speaker wire) save the screws they will be used for the bracket to hold the microphone and the antenna, because I am anal I also placed a cap and secured the old speaker connection to prevent rattles and such. I then built a bracket that recessed into the speaker area, I used the speaker screw locations and depth to approximate the bracket angles (recess) and screw locations for my bracket. I used some standard "L" brackets from Home Depot (added an additional reverse bend to make it work so it looked like an "S" and some thin metal to make the base of the mounting area. I then set the bracket into the old speaker location (bottom of the bracket has a small flat area where the microphone and antenna will be attached). I also added some black vinyl to the bracket so it wouldn't be visible through the center speaker cover. Like I said I'll try to take some pictures today of how everything looks so people can see the mount and finished product.

id think with the mic in the center speaker spot it would be hard for the people on the phone to hear you. especially if its raining or the wipers are going or if the blower motor is on.
