The Mustang might be lighter - but I will push a Camaro before I drive a Mustang.

I am by no means a professional driver I simply have 12 years experience(I am 28) of regular everyday driving and none of it in this type of car. With that said I took my SS to the tail of the dragon this last weekend and it handled great and didn't feel like 3800 pounds of car. I have sway bars I want to get installed and try again but totally stock it surprised me with it's weight/handling. If your not familiar with tail of the dragon it's 318 curves in 11 miles just search it.

This has been covered soooooo many times. I hope you've used the search feature.
You haven't really stated anything you want except to drop 500 pounds. If you want to do many of the things mentioned above to save weight......and none add up to 500 pounds by the way.........you will give up the comfortable, quiet and safe Camaro we all love. As mentioned by one of the earlier posts, the car is a system intended to do many things. If you want to give most of those up then just start pulling parts off of the car until it won't run and stop. Yes, you can buy a Carbon hood for maybe $1,500 bucks (at least that's what a Vette aftermarket hood cost last I checked) and a boat load of other light weght parts by simply writing a check. But I would suggest you will spend about 10 to 20 per pound saved by the time you are done there. So for the price of your Camaro and another 5 to 10,000 you could get there. And that's a low side investment by the way. But if you want to void your warranty, give up emissions, and the ability to listen to music and ride with passengers, you can get 500 pounds out. It just wouldn't be a very cool looking car or much fun to ride in, IMO. Good luck. I think you should put a thread in the project file and keep us up to date on what you are able to achieve.

![]() ![]() I am so tired about comparing stats...........give it a rest people, your not racing it on a track for money. And as caverman said, these cars are solid as a Muscle car should be..........damn communist thinking!

i had the same concern before it came in and thought it was going to feel heavy but it honestly doesn't...you have to remember you have 426 horsepower and 420 lb/ft of torque to blast it around...
it doesn't feel heavy to me at all..it feels exactly like what it is...a beast!! |

RatedZ - you really shouldn't focus on ONE and ONLY ONE aspect of a vehicle. I mean, how interested are you in the cars that are 500 lbs lighter but only have 100 horsepower? And to turn into your dad for an moment, throwing around derogatory terms on an enthusiast website is pretty rude. |

if you want to drop down somewhere close to the mustang's weight, do the Independent rear suspension conversion to a solid-rear axle.
I personally wouldn't sacrifice ride quality |
