Beat up 5th Gens.

In the last few weeks I've seen three 5th Generation camaros that were just
a mess. Two dark blue and one black. Dirty and dented and they have been
reduced to just old cars. Sad but I think some of the 5th Gen Camaros are
no longer considered special. I still consider my '10 SS special, I guess that's
all that counts.

I've also seen some Gen 5s that were obviously not appreciated. It's a sad thing that I just don't understand.

There are a few by me, some with really f##ked up doors, or quarters.

And to make it worse, these camaro's running around havent been fixed in years.

The way I look at it, It just my Camaro that more special.

To some people, it is simply a form of transportation. Beat the Hell out of it. It's only money.

At this point, the oldest 5th Gen is a good 6-7 years old. Some out there have over 100,000 miles. There will surely be some that are beat to crap. It isn't a Camaro but a few months ago I was looking to buy a SUV. So my heart was set on the Trailblazer SSS. I went and looked at 5 of them and they were all beat to crap. I mean, the interiors were dirty, cig burns everywhere, holes in the carpet and seats, etc. This was 5 different SSS Trailblazers at 2 different dealerships. It was obvious that the previous owners didn't take care of them and the dealerships didn't care much about them either. I've never went to look at one specific make/model vehicle and saw soo many of them in terrible condition all in one day. But, just remember that ALL makes/models get beat on and ill-treatment. That just makes me take care of mine even more.

Believe it or not, you will find neglected cars in almost any genre, even with status cars. It is much less common with status cars, as owners of those cars would have the resources to have others take care of their detailing.

I agree with you, in that its a shameful waste to see a Camaro in a neglectful state. I once saw a ZL1 convertible (the same color of my ZL) near to the area where I work, and I was just appalled at the poor condition its appearance was. Large dings, curb rash, and dirt everywhere. It was sickening just to look at.

Edit: Post #5, I believe you entirely on the TBSS you saw. Most of the examples on the market are beat to crap with LOADS of miles and the hidden gremlins akin to the TBSS. A mint, low mile example (mine) would probably cost a king's ransom. I just don't believe in owning a prime car that's been beaten to hell or to exhibit neglect in its appearance. I want my prime car to look good, feel great and sound phenomenal.

There's a black 1le in my parking lot at work.....its 100% dirty 100% of the time. Took my car out yesterday. I went to the coffee shop and as I got out a guy walking by told me how nice my car is. The v8s I see are very nice....the v6s look a little neglected for some reason.

I have noticed a lot over the years that really nice Porsche's, especially the more expensive ones like 911's, are some of the most neglected 'nice' cars out there. I can't imagine spending $80-90K for a car and never even washing it.

I can think of a few ways it can happen that don't necessarily imply outright neglect. At one time or another I've been subject to all except the last one.

Owner works long work weeks
Owner has a time-consuming commute.
Owner can't afford body shop bill
No garage
Outdoor water use restrictions
Apartment/condo/HOA restrictions

Back in 1979 I bought a new car. A friend of mine also bought a new car.

I lived in the suburbs and worked in the city in a fairly nice neighborhood.
He lived and worked in a very crowded area of the city.

When I visited him right after we bought our cars he wanted me to have a ride. He backed out of his garage smack into a utility pole. "Oh, that will be okay."

About three years later my car had one very minor scrape on the right rear. His car didn't have a panel that wasn't damaged, except perhaps the roof.

I started referring to cars as city and suburban.

My black 2011 SS with 27k on the clock lives it life in the garage, but it is pretty dirty right now. Almost impossible to keep clean (it is black) and I don't have the time to obsess over it, and refuse to let the car wash touch it. Cleans up real nice, but doesn't seem to stay there for long.

Tons of banged up 5th gens out there. In early 2014 I was looking to buy a slightly used Camaro SS with under 20k miles. Every single one of them I could find had door dings along the door crease (nearly impossible to remove), scrapes along the front bumpers from poor parking, curb rash on wheels, and various other items here and there. My focus was on 2011-2013 year cars (only 1-3 years old at the time) and they were still all hogged up. I finally said the hell with looking for a clean used one and lucked out finding a leftover new 2013 at a dealer 3 hours away from me in the exact color and option combination I wanted. I bought it on the spot.

No offense to anyone on here, but I've found real life Camaro owners to be some of the most neglectful careless performance car owners I've seen in awhile. I've had 4 GTO's since 2004 and never saw the type of carelessness in those cars that I've seen in used Camaro's.

Glad to hear that some Camaro owners treat their cars like a rented mule. That makes mine stand out all the more when I drive down the road. I just love getting the thumbs up from strangers and always hearing what a great looking car I have each time I gas it up. Mine is not a daily driver and I would never hit the road if it were dirty. For me, the whole reason for owning such a car is the feeling I get driving such a beauty. The power, the looks and all the necks that turn in awe. I've seen some Z28s that looked like someone took a giant crap on them. Sad! Oh well. Makes me look like a king.
