Glad to see competition. Competition is good for all of us.

As far as comparing them. I'd be willing to bet money the DI 3.6L has some more headroom left in it. Its been at pretty much the same ratings since it debuted in '06. Without much V6 competition in its range, I'd bet this is exactly the thing GM was waiting for to bump up the power...

The 3.7L is actually more than 100lb lighter than the 4.0L Cologne V6, although there will certainly be drive-line and brake upgrades which will eat up some of the weight loss the 3.7L will bring to the table. That said, it wont be nearly enough to offset the weight loss the new engine brings to the equation. The base Mustang will lose weight, the only question right now is how much.

As for pricing, I expect it to stay more or less where it is, but the hefty rebates that have been more or less standard on the base Mustang will almost certainly disappear. As for fuel economy, the current Mazda 6 is rated at 25mpg highway with the more restrictive existing 3.7L setup. The new, revised 3.7L will improve on fuel economy as well as power, we just don't know by how much. Will it match the 29mpg the Camaro knocks down? Who knows. That said, if Ford can hit 27mpg highway I think they will be fine, although I would like to see better.

Either way, this thing is going to be a 22,000 dollar killing machine. For reference, the base Mustang V6 will possess a better power to weight ratio than any production 350Z Nissan built during that cars production run which only ended in 2008.

I wouldn't buy a base model of anything I would buy the best model of the most uncompromising engine. Catch my drift on the assumption of 35k! On top of all that Ford is worse about 'market value adjustments '. I went to a ford dealership after ordering my Camaro just to see what they had to offer and 2.5k markup is the first thing that came out of the dealers mouth. His face changed shapes after I told him I was buying a Camaro and had just ordered. He didn't even believe what I was getting for the price I was getting it for.
Actually it's the other way around if it was'nt for Ford there would not be a Camaro. So in fact this is the second time Ford helped you get a Camaro. So thank you Ford.

Competition is good for all, but it can't compete in the looks department.

Base Camaro LS runs about 24K with destination charges.

Hum... they are comparing the 2011 V6 Mustang to the 2010 V6 Camaro. So what will GM do to the '11 model? A few horsepower here, a few ft-lb of torque there. Just keeps getting better and better!

It's nice to see them step it up and all that, but facing facts it looks like they were holding out on the Ford fans in the engine department for years and years.

Plus, they could put Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Boosters on the thing and it still will never get the kind of attention that the 5th gen Camaro has received.

Besides... the Mustang can't Transform! LOL!

If at all possible, I will never own a Ford. The reason is simple: in my experience, and the experience of everyone I know, Ford autos simply don't hold up as well over time. A Ford was the worst car my mother ever drove. My own first car, an '80 Camaro, went 180,000 miles. I take excellent care of my cars and keep them until they're about 15 years old. Longevity might not be a problem if you only keep your cars 5 years, but to me, it's a big deal. Even IF the next Mustang is a little faster, it doesn't beat Camaro in overall long-term quality, and certainly doesn't beat it in looks.

I'll be sticking with the Camaro.
