Dealers will want to use the new plan, it pays retail list on parts and Customer pay labor rates... No reason to not to repair a covered item

A rose by any other name... It is a strut.

Any new case of MR Strut/Shock with low or high mileage that have been replaced since last year?

Replace both rears at 30,000 in February under warranty. Both rears were leaking.

Just rears so far, no issues with the front. The rears weren't leaking but it was bouncing.

The geometry of the rear suspension puts a tremendous side load on the rear strut shaft seal. The seal is designed to weep a bit, just enough to lubricate the seal and keep it from getting pulled out or pinched. If the seal gets dry for any reason, the side load will cause damage to the dry seal followed by failure.

I have to replace both of my rears at 54k because they were leaking and causing a bumpy ride. I purchased them from GMParts house for 363 a piece and it took about two weeks to get them. Dealership quoted $700 a piece.

Thanks to this thread I checked all 4 struts 1 week before my ZL1's 3Yr anniversary. Front struts looked good but the rear struts had a slight oil film on them. Took it to the dealer and they said the rear struts were seeping and agreed to replace both under warranty.

Thanks OP I probably would not have checked the struts had it not been for this thread. Car only had 24,000 miles.

How can you tell if your struts need to be replaced or not?

If you have a bouncy car, yes.
