Fuse Question

What fuse powers the passenger side tail lights and rear side markers? For some reason this morning, my passenger tail lights and rear side marker did not light up. The rear tail lights all light up when I brake or when the Hazard switch is on, but otherwise they're just off.

I know there are 3 fuse box locations. One in the engine bay, one on the drivers side dash by the door, and one on the rear passenger

Thanks for the info - I've searched long and hard for this (yes, including the owners manual) but no luck.

There is one fuse for all four taillights and another for the brake lights.

Did you change anything on the rear?

Hmm, weird then if that's the case. Why would one side of the tail lights be out and not the other? Maybe a wiring issue? I haven't done anything with the rear of late.

Looks like a trip to the GM service dept. may be in order. It would be only the second time since I bought the car...

CamaroFred Do you know what fuse number that is and which box it is in? I am going to be hooking up accent light behind the grill and since all the spare fuse stops that I checked with my test light are energized with the car off. Want them to only come on when the car is running. So may have to do a add a fuse to the fuse instead of tapping the side marker light wire. Or if anyone has any other ideas that would be helpful as well. I am planning on the install on Saturday weather permitting. I did look in my owners manual and found no indication on the fuse for the side marker lights or tail lights. Just found the fog lights and head lights.

I just found this on an older thread:

I believe they are controlled by a circuit breaker in the BCM. I don't think there is an actual fuse.

Did you break a wire messing with the taillights or side marker?
There are fusible links in your car which means they are a short piece of light wire and melt easily. PITA.

was looking for this at work last night this is the best I could find:

"Unfortunately, the fuses are not specific to individual lamps!

You may have a problem with Body Control Module #5. If the fuse was the cause, it would be F29, but then your trunk release would also be out.

Looks like you need to visit your friendly dealer."

from rock-it-man in 2013.

Looked in my Hayes repair manual and it looks like all the rear lights are going into the bcm and then there are fuses that go into the bcm. each of the fuses going into the bcm are labeled bcm 2-5 and are fuses f6, f15, f16, and f29.

Keep in mind I have 0 exp working on electrical items in a car so just thought I would throw out what I tried to look up and understand.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thank you grahak2 , after reading that I am just going to tap into the side marker lights seems to be easier.

CamaroFred, No thank God I did not break anything.....yet. I was trying to figure out which fuse they used so that I could wire it that way instead of tapping the marker lights. Or put the lights on their own fuse but can not seem to find a fuse under the hood or under the dash that is not "hot" all the time.

Good luck Stewart. Did you check the fuses in the trunk. I think maybe that is where it is for the rear lighting? If it is f29 that is.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to try to troubleshoot a bit more today and if I have no luck, I will be taking it in for service.

I didn't look in the trunk. Was hoping there would be a way to use a fuse or spare fuse that was not energized all the time in one of the front 2 fuse boxes, so that I did not have to run a wire all the way to the back to install the accent lights in the grille. I will check it out and see if it is a big deal to do so. Thank you Kevin for the link and suggestion though.
