TPMS sensors/relearn/programming

My tire guy is going to install my new tires on new wheels. The new wheels do not have TPMS sensors and he is telling me they cost $101.00 a piece to buy the sensor and do the "programming" on the sensor. First off, I think that is wayyyy high and I will look elsewhere for the sensors.
My question is, don't the sensors relearn themselves and communicate back and forth to the computer in the car?

They have to be programmed with a learning device. I bought my sensors on eBay for $60 for a set of 4. They programmed them for free when they put the wheels on the car at Discount Tire. Mount, balance and program cost me $65.

Cool. Thanks Joey. I knew my tire guy was just trying to make some dough. I put in a call to my buddy who owns a body shop. They have a relearn device there. He said he'd do it for me. I told him to get me a price on factory TPMS sensors. I'll see what they cost from him through his shop. If not, I'll search ebay.

Sensor will cost you about $60 each even at wholesale from GM. Here is what I ordered. They were factory take-offs in perfect condition and worked perfect.

Sweet! Thanks for that info. I talked to the guy I'm ordering my wheels from, they are installing them, programming them and selling me all 4 for $180.00. Probably a good deal as I won't have to worry about programming later or any extra hidden costs from my tire installer.

You can buy the GM re-learn tool on ebay for like $80. It is really easy, the dealer where I bought my GMC truck does it for free all the time , it only takes like 3 mins to do !!!

My buddy owns an auto body shop and he just told me he bought the relearn tool so he's going to hook me up for free and do the relearn on them.

what happens if you put on a pair of rear tires with drag radials (just at the track) and they don't have the sensors at all?

This was awhile ago from Maureen at Rodgers OEM TPMS --- The TPMS sensors are $46 ea. plus these are held on with a nut which are $5 ea. We do not charge shipping or handling within the US.

You will get a TPMS error on the DIC for those two rear tires, and when you put the other tires back on you might have to swing by a Discount tire and have them relearn for you. Takes a sec and no charge.

If he only swaps out rims and still retains his stock rim/tire set up he won't have to have a relearn done. He'll only have to relearn if he puts tires on factory wheels with no TPMS, correct?

Don't know the answer as every set I have has a TPMS sensor, so I have to always relearn after swapping tires.
