Power steering fluid vs ATF 2010 SS

My 2010 SS is low on power steering fluid. The 2010 manual recommends Dexron VI ATF but after some searching, I realized GM changed to power steering fluid part number 89021182 for the 2011 and 2012 Camaro. Should I use the Dexron or get the official GM stuff?

First, take a paper towel and make sure it's red. If it is, use ATF, if not use GM power steering fluid.

Interestingly, my manual (2012 RS) calls for the GM Fluid (which I bought and is clear). Yet, when I went to do the change the fluid in the pump reservoir is red and indeed smells just like ATF.

Do you think someone else used wrong fluid? I believe only the 2010 used ATF.

Original owner and never had steering service, odd. Only thing I can think of is that this is a 2012, but was one of the first ones made and was on the road 9/2011. Maybe documentation (manual) was updated before running change? You do say 2010's only, but only thing I can think of. It's a 2LT/RS

There's a guy on here, MS3Dale, works at a Chevy dealer, knows a lot about Camaro's and what parts and fluids required. He checked for me and said, check and use what came with the car, as 2010 models, some ATF and some GM amber power steering fluid. Nice guy, shoot him a PM if concerned. I'm almost sure, to use what car came with. Very interested to know the answer myself.

Save yourself the trouble and dump that factory crap and install a full reservoir of Redline Power steering fluid.

Went with the AC/Delco fluid and did a full drain and replace and the steering is MUCH improved!
