dome light wire question

so I am in the process of installing some footwell LEDs. Question about the dome light circuit.

My controller has an aux wire that I can wire to a + source, and when that source receives power, the LEDs will light up white, then when they receive power through the switched source, they will turn onto their last setting. I have verified that the controller is functioning properly.

my problem: I have my fused/switched source wired up - tapped into an AUX fuse (#17 in the drivers side dash) but when I tie into the grey wire for the dome light, the dome lights up, but no LEDs.

I have confirmed that the controller is not the issue - wired the spare wire to a known positive, and the lights functioned like they should (when I hit them with power from the spare 'aux' wire, they went white) however, when I wire them into the grey wire for the dome light, nothing happens.

I've tried the grey wire next to the gas pedal in the grey connector, and also the grey wire behind the passenger kick panel. No luck either way...I presume this is the + wire that everyone is speaking of, and am about to give up and just ditch the aux wire, but this is a feature that I'd really like to use....

Any tips? I presume that if dome light is lit, then there is juice running through these grey wires, but I've not been able to get things to work like they should....

You have the right color, are you sure you have the correct connector, it's a flat connector with 2 rows of 15 wires, there's also a gray and a dark gray wire, (they should be next to each other) and the dark gray wire is for the pass air bag indicator, you want the light gray wire.

Well damn. I had tied into the darker grey, but when I tried the lighter one, nothing worked either.

Oh well. I'll keep reading. This isn't an essential part of the install, just a nice to have. Gonna tidy up the lights/cobtrolleand call it a day in a couple. Thanks man

Any update on this? I feel like I have the same lighting kit as Hazy, but haven't installed it yet.
