That's interesting... Wonder what would cause the weak fuel pump? It doesn't seem like the mods that were done would be taxing on the pump at all..

I don't get the mail order tune. You could have just taken the car to dyno shop and had it tuned without all the hassle. I will never do a mail in tune.
Theres no issues with a remote tune as long as you data log and send the files back and forth. With a mail order hand held tuner and a canned tune, yes its a waste of money, but with the SCT Ted is just tuning it remotely, using the same data as he would from a dyno..... I think its better to have someone knowledgeable do remote tune than take it to a dyno where they may have no idea what they are doing....

Hang in there Buck. It isn't worth stabbing yourself in the neck! j/k You're way ahead of the game in that your wife loves the car. Stick with it and in the end you'll have a great car.

We're here for you man.

For sure...

Last thing you need is a local bum dyno shop thinking they can start messing with an LSA because they can tune carb 350 small blocks and LS1s.

I'm not averse to horse power, it just sucks taking on someone else mistakes. I don't know of any reputable and proven tuners in my area so the mail order tune seemed to be my best option.

The fuel pump can become damaged by heat if it's often run low on fuel, say 1/4 tank or less. Not sure if that's what caused mine but it's possible. Ted says he's seen them weak quite a bit.

Agreed, it just takes a while sometimes.

Thanks, I just want it to be safe to drive to it's potential. Took it out on a cruise with some other fast cars couple Sundays ago and it would have been nice to really give it hell without worrying.

True, I've researched a couple guys in my area and I'm just not confident.

When tuning is complete I will try and get it on a dyno to verify the numbers, but it should be comparable to Ted's 125 rwhp setup.

Finally got an answer on the fuel pump today, they will be replacing it next week under warranty. I've been racking my brain trying to trouble shoot it to see if it's something I've overlooked but I can't come up with anything. I'm cautiously optimistic at this point.

Wild twist to my story... took the car into the dealership for the fuel pump swap this morning. When I walk in one of the service writers is telling the service manager, "It's back in my life!" The service manager says, "What do you mean?" and he responds, "That's my old car." I finally found the previous owner!! He was cool and gave me a brief history. I told him about the issues I was having and he seemed surprised but agreed that it needed injectors. Well, I hope having him there will help me get the fuel pump swapped under warranty without any trouble. Anyway... I thought it was an interesting twist.

Well, at the end of day one at the dealer I'm not sure how this is going to go. When I asked the P.O. who tuned the car he said it was a "guy in Las Vegas". But early in our discussions he said he has HP Tuners, then later he commented that he had been to "all the tuning schools" so I'm thinking he may have been the "guy in Las Vegas". When I dropped the car with them I told them the fuel pressure spiked to approximately 60psi on initial WOT, immediately drops back to around 50psi and then around 4000 rpm it begins to fall to a low of 41psi at 5900rpm according to my data log. They didn't touch the car until after I called them at 4pm at which time they called me back and said the pressure stayed between 55 and 59 at idle without a load. I told them if they have to verify my assertion it has to checked at WOT under load. He said to give them some more time in the morning and they'd let me know. I'm not feeling confident at this point, I can only hope they'll be able to duplicate the issue in the morning and get a pump on order. If so it'll be 3 days to get the part and a day to fix it so best case scenario we are back on the road by Friday and ready to continue tuning...

Another thing I guess I'd put out as a lesson learned is always do a baseline data log so you know what's going on before you start tuning and swapping parts. At this point I have no idea what was happening before I started the effort to get the car straightened out.

Dealer says the fuel pump is within specifications... so is the sct x4 giving false information in the log? Sorry for the pic size...

Who says the pump needs to be replaced? Ted? I'd take what Ted says any day over a dealership, especially in regards to the LSA/ZL1. But if it's fine, then that saves you some work and coin. I haven't heard of the fuel pump being replaced/going bad unless you're going E85 and you need more fuel.

^^ The dealer said the pump is fine, but he's logging fuel pressure and it's dropping at WOT which is not uncommon on these cars when modded. He can buy a BAP to help keep the pressure up or install an aftermarket fuel system to help.

Which would suggest he also has possibly a cam and or a lower pulley as that's when a BAP is used.
