Loss of Power?

So im wondering if it's true that I've lost power due to my my exhaust setup. A friend was telling me I've lost power because of the all the free flowing air so I'm looking to see if this is true. I have complete straights Pipes no muffler or resonator with some LT kook headers. So if I have lost power how much have I lost? (L99 SS btw)

So once I had installed my headers I had the same setup.

It 'felt' like I lost a little bottom end torque. That didn't bother me as much as the Nascar Pit-Lane level of noise the long tubes/muffler delete/resonator delete produced. Not only was it insanely loud, I could not stand how raspy it became, as I also have no cats.

So I bought the Legato axle back and definitely feel that I got that low end TQ back again. Plus, now it sounds amazing...not including the drone I now have.

So yes, you can lose a little bit of TORQUE on the bottom end. But Power? No. Adding Longtubes will give you a heap of top end power. You should not even have to ask. You should be able to feel this on your own, as I know I did.

But that begs the question...did you get a tune or have your X4 selected for the long tubes? Because you are leaving power on the table if you didn't. The long tubes will generally cause a lean condition with your AFR unless tuned accordingly.

Your friend is crazy, but you should get a tune to optimize your power. Best thing I ever did to my L99 car was get it a tune. You'll think you have a while new car!

probably 20 years ago in Super Chevy, they proved that you got more power with a flowmaster muffler versus straight pipe (no muffler). You would think restriction is bad... but there is some amount of backpressure needed that actually helps flow. I don't think it's a huge amount (maybe 5 hp), but it was very interesting at the time for me.
