Is the Springfield Mil-Spec the cheapest US-built 1911 from a major manufacturer?

My dad's been kicking himself ever since he sold his Colt Gold Cup. I don't have the money for one of those but he's always talked about wanting to get another 1911.

Probably. Springfield loaded is a closer match to the gold cup. Whatever you get him will return to you one day..... just something to consider.

Maybe that seems insensitive, but it isn't. Enjoy your dad while he's around. One day he'll be gone, but that memory of shooting with your dad will stay. One gun you'll never sell.

I second this. Not sure where you live in Florida but I have guy here who has built a couple 1911's for me and he was a 3 gun champion builder for a while. Just my .02 custom is always great gift no one ever complains about. May end up costing about the same as the Springfield loaded but have your family name or his initials engraved. You could obviously do that to a cheaper gun as well to make it unique. Good Luck enjoy the fact your dad enjoys the sport with you!

Take a look at the Springfield Range Officer. I bought mine about 5 years ago when they first came out and it's a tack driver. It's setup similar to a Colt Gold Cup, and you should be able to pick one up around $750.

Is this a good price? Also, anyone know if the slide release is ambidextrous? Not a big deal, just easier being left handed.

Slide release isn't ambi.

Whittaker Guns has it for $329 plus shipping. Don't remember what they charge to ship.

Palmetto Armory is running a special for February where you get a 9mm Shield and a Palmetto Armory AR15 for $700. They sell them as soon as they get them in. Would have gone for it myself if I didn't already have a Shield.

I think we are going to be seeing some massive AR-15 sales in the upcoming months. Many of the builders, suppliers over produced for fear of a Hillary Administration. Save your dollars. We haven't seen the bottom of the AR market yet.

Already starting to see powder and primers at very low prices, post election.

I agree. I saw $499 complete AR15s (minus rear sight) last week online.

I saw $399 AR's...a special SALE...yesterday.

Bought some pistol powder a few days ago....8 pounds for $102. Six months ago, same stuff.... $189 to over $200.

I think we are in for some good times.

I thought I had seen $399 ARs but couldn't find them today so I changed it to $499 because I found a bunch of them.

I work part time for a reloading supplies seller. I get paid in components. I'm pretty sure I have enough powder to last mine and my kids' lifetimes. 8# for $102 is outstanding. What powder? Pistol powder lasts a loooong time. I've been loading 9MM with titegroup out of an 8# jug for sometime now.

Try primaryarms.com. They have a couple at $399, and a few more between $399-$499. I bought an AR pistol from them, good shop to buy from.

Here's a $399 option: http://www.primaryarms.com/sota-arms...guard-c-qr-136
