There has been no official release but this is pretty solid info from Ed Welburn, GM's Vice President for global design.

It's still a gamble until we have a official release!

Pricing.
Let's all think about this for a bit. Start off at 35k. The price of the LSA engine alone is 10-12k. (On my phone, will check that later). So that right there puts the price in the 46-48k range. We are obviously not just adding an engine. So lets subtract the price of the LS3 and L99. Thats about 7k. That drops us back down to the 39-41k range. Add price for a few body changes, badging, marketing....etc. all the other stuff involved in adding a new model to a body line.

Its safe to say pricing will be around 44-46k?

Just wishful thinking though.........

While I agree with you and alot of these things we have to consider several scenarios. Since we are seeing this car coming out about 1 1/2 years to 2 down the road as we all know in this business a lot can change. While you can bet your bottom dollar that GM will price this competitively, we need to remember the GT500 is not the only vehicle GM is going to try and target this car at. It needs to be appeal to a vast audience for it to succeed, which we all want.So think of it not just going up against our beloved rival the Mustang, but cars such as the Nissan Nismo Z, BMW M3 series etc. Right now all we have to go on is Ed Welburn confirmation and some images of what we assume is the Z28. Will it have 560 HP ? Maybe. Remember the bar gets raised often in this business and GM will have to adjust to that and they will. Will it have exotic materials to decrease some weight? Maybe. These are questions that I am sure will be answered in due time. But for what its worth we know its coming. I really do think this is going to be what the Z06 is to the Corvette.

As far as it being similarly priced to a Corvette, lets not forget the Corvette is a totally different car. Its a different kind of buyer which is not what the Camaro is. The Camaro seats 4, the Corvette 2. You can do more with a Camaro then you can with a Vette as far as practicality goes and that has been a defining factor in the difference of these two cars. I can go on and on about how different they are, but in the same token they are similar in the manner of performance value. Make no mistake I am sure the Camaro Team as well as Scott know what we expect and they will keep this in mind but at the same time we will not get everything we want simply because of cost and the way it may negatively affect the car.

So I will leave you all with this. Lets just sit back, and watch this car be born the way we saw the concept be born in 2006. As Scott stated in a previous post ...

"As you know: we never rest. Remember when the C5 was the 'end-all?' - and then there was the Z06 - and then there was the C6 -- and then there was the C6-Z06 -- and then there was the ZR1.......

.........we are far from finished................"

Sorry guys, but you can probaly forget about the idea that a z28 is just a camaro ss with a blower. I am epecting the z28 will have everything the 2SS have as standard, with an LSA engine, magnetic shocks (similar to the cts-v and zr1) 20" Forged alluminum light wieght wheels with wider tires at all four corners. The brakes will probaly be the same as the Cts-V aswell, you now the 15" 6 piston / 14.7" 4 piston brembos front and Back (that is not cheap). And hopefully a carbon fiber roof, for lower center of gravity. But in any case the z28 will probaly have a base price of just under $50k.

I would not count on 2011. With a waiting list for convertibles as long as coupes, we'll be doing the allocation / wait game all over again. One production line. Coupes will be pushed aside and hard to get....I really can't see a Z28 in the same year. My money is on 2012 as a 2013.

With the C7 Vette coming in 2012, i don't think chevy have anything to worry about. The C7 will most likely go up in price point and should be given a truly awesome interior. Not to menchon a D.I. version of the LS3 for about 500hp. Since the C7 will likely be almost 1000lbs lighter than the 2012 MY Z28 which will weigh probaly about 4000lbs, I again think there will be nothing to worry about.

Edit: remeber hp is not everything, and people who shop for 2 seater performance cars like the vette knows that.
