Advise for buying new wheels but keeping current tires

Hi everyone!

I have a 2015 1SS and Im looking to purchase some new wheels for the start of year 2 with the car. Car has under 20,000 miles on it, so I don't want to buy new tires yet - I just want to buy new wheels and wrap them in my current Pzero tires. I will list my tire specs below and then ask my question.

Front: 245/45ZR20 - stock wheel is 20x8
Rear: 275/40ZR20 - stock wheel is 20x9

I would like to buy better looking wheels obviously, but I also really like the more aggressive looking stance of the wider rear tires. I saw on tirerack.com that my tires could handle wheel width of 7.5-9" in front and 9-11" in back. What wheel size would you guys recommend sticking with? Could I go as far 20x9 front and 20x10 or 20x11 in back without needing to replace my tires this year?

Thanks in advance for the help!

You can do a 20x9/10 front and back.

Members have actually used 20x10/11 with factory tires, it curves a bit but it can be done.

Awesome, thank you for the speedy reply! Trying to decide if the powdered coated stock wheels would just as good for 1/2 the cost of new wheels. Tough decisions need to be made before spring - still lots of time to make upgrades before its time to bring the car back out!

I did this exact thing with my car and used 20x9 and 20x10 FR style 41. In hind sight I do wish that I would have went with the ZL1 20x10 and 20x11 with new tires for an even more aggressive look but very happy with the wheels.

At 20k, your factory pirellis are getting very close to needing to be replaced. Mine were shot at 18k on a daily driver. Seems to be pretty common, a few long threads on it. I would plan for wheels assuming you will need tires soon.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't realize these pirelli tires would wear out so quickly so thanks for the heads up! I love the FR 41 ZL1 replica look, I also really like the z28 style wheels as well. It's just a tough pill to swallow thinking I would need to spend $1000 on wheels and $1000 on tires in the same season :,( I'd love to make it to next spring and around 40,000 miles if possible. Anyone seen our SS in silver ice metallic with black powder coated own wheels? I think the pics look sharp but I've never seen it in person

I have ~22,000 on my P-zeros and the depth gauge says I am just past half-life (6/32") so I am looking at 8.5 and 10 American Racing Torque Thrusts. They also offer a 9" wide but I don't want to go too fat with the steers.

Reasonable price and I'm not looking at adding any power so new 245/275s will go on when I need new tires.

To me, black wheels look like dirt (personal opinion).
Some chrome or gray with machined lips on your SIM would look good in my eyes.

Hmm never thought about the grey with machined face on a SIM car. I should google around and see if I can find any examples, thanks! I only like the black because the silver 1LE and z28s look really good.

After some research I too agree that either Chrome or Dark Grey Machined wheels look great on a Silver Camaro. I really like the look of the forged mesh wheels, only example I've seen on this forum are the Modulare H1's. Anyone know of some good brands or wheel models that look sharp in chrome or machined grey, but wont cost $500+ per wheel?

You can get a full set of the American Racing for under $1000. If they fit your taste.

They are castings, not forged, but that's what the stockers are.

Thanks for the quick reply guys! Both of your posts have some nice wheels, they just don't fit the idea I have in my head. Really looking for something close to the picture below. If anyone has something like this or knows of a sponsored retailer - please point me in that direction
