Thanks a lot for the info everybody!!

I think I might go with a Pioneer GM-D8604 amp. Do you guys think this would be a good amp to power my Alpine Type R's (SPR-69 and SPR-60C)?

To install the amp, would the rear seats need to be taken out again in order to wire the rear speakers? The reason I ask is because I want to know if i wasted money with this guy when I paid him to install my rear speakers.

Also, would I need to get a new headunit to get everything to work? Once again, I'm not planning on adding subs.

No you won't have to take the rear speakers out again, you can get to the wiring from the bottom.
I would try what others suggested first. Switch the wires on the rear speakers to the low frequency wires. You will then have some base. This will only take a few minutes and would save you lots of money if you find it acceptable.

At minimum it would get it sounding better until you make more changes.

So I just took my car to a shop to get an estimate for how much it'd be to install my 4 channel amp... $650 for labor alone?! Wtf??? What's a reasonable price to pay for labor for an amp installation?

Sounds like your local shop is hosing you! If I was you, I would join DIYMA, and ask for assistance from guys in your area. You just happen to be in a hotbed of mobile audio, and any of the super cool guys in NCSQ would probably be more than willing to help you in any way possible.

might be a dumb question but...

Why didn't you listen to it when you picked your car up from installer and ask them why you were only getting high freq. from the 6x9s?

Honestly I would take it back where the work was done orignally with the knowledge you now have and have them wire up the mid/bass output wire from the original bynines instead of the high frequency tweeter wires. On their dime of course. All they can say is no. Move on from there.

When I read these audio forums I realize just how much I don’t know about car sound. I have installed aftermarket stereos and speakers in every car I have owned since the 70’s and must have been very very lucky because all systems worked. I wouldn’t know if I should smoke, drink or dance with bi-amps, type R’s, FARKs or class of amps.

Anyway, I have a lot of research to do before I replace my amp and sub. Thank GOD for these forums.

I think if you switch the wiring to the low side of the bi-amp wiring, you might lose your bells for door open, seat belt, etc. I believe those are wired through the 6x9 tweeters...

This is correct unless he uses a summing device ( DSP or a good LOC ) Which will combine the 2 into one signal for aftermarket speakers.

quick question...

Get a FARK kit. Sub thump .com
This is to add an amp, it's plug and play. Since the OEM speakers are 50w at 2 Omhs, the Alpine speakers require more watts, which is why they sound like tweeters. Again a new amp will do the trick.

Hey CreeperRS, are all 5 speakers rated at 50w @2ohms? Anybody know the specs on the OEM Boston Acoustics speakers? Google was no help :(

Thanks
