If "your detail guy" has never used one, I would find another as this is a major step in detailing correctly.
Thanks for the info. I'm sure my detail guy uses them...I just never have.

clay bar slowly do every quarter - three nights work. Just use the clay bar with 4% dawn soap. Dont drop it, it you get dirt in it, throw away the clay bar, and use another. Clay works so well as its particles are sub collodial in size (0.01 to 0.08 um in size)

Then use a good cleaning wax and always use a clean micro-fiber rag (dont reuse dirty rags....they will wash out). I finish my car with an application of Zaino wax.

Are all clay bars pretty much the same?

I was considering "Mother California Gold Clay Bar System" unless someone says otherwise...

Even though it's only 4%, I was always told to NEVER use dish soap on cars as it eats away at the clear IIRC. Care to explain why dish soap?

You can use dish soap to strip the car of all finishes. It will damage the clear coat if used for years and nothing put back.

I waxed a show truck every Friday for years when I was younger and thought it was fun. I used dawn dish soap to keep it from building up.

You could use a speed shine for increased lubricity to avoid dishsoap... more expensive but...

Ordered the Mothers clay bar system, should have it tomorrow. I guess I know what my plans are for Sunday.

Also installed the rock guards tonight and de-badged the rear. I couldn't stand the gold bow tie on a silver car.

I received my Noah Cal car cover on Wednesday so yesterday afternoon I decided to give her a good bath and use the clay bar system. WOW! It worked really well. Spent about 4 hours going over the entire car with the clay bar then dropped back and waxed it. Looks like a slick piece of silver glass...can't wait to see it in the sunlight today.

I'm having the windows tinted this afternoon as well so I'll post some pics after.
