Extremely high oil pressure (2014 LFX)
I know several other people have posted having 70 PSI cold starts and slightly higher than that at full throttle. I think mine may be higher! the "driver information center" gauge goes to 6 bar (87.0226 PSI) and maxes out regularly...
From a cold start it maxes out at 6 bar and stays there until the oil reaches 120 degrees or so and the pressure drops of to about 30 psi at idle, but as soon as I exceed 2000 rpm the gauge maxes again. and even once the engine has fully warmed up I cant go beyond 3000 rpm with out maxing out the gauge at 6 bar... I found a TSB from 2012 that basically stated that on cold start and moderate throttle 60 PSI was normal but i haven't found anything stating that 87+ PSI under moderate throttle is normal or safe for the engine... I know there are old (dead) threads for similar concerns... but if someone with a similar gauge readings can advise me on whether or not this is safe it would sure be a load of my mind! I am new here so, if this thread is in the wrong section or violates a rule please let me know... Thanks |

Couple questions: I see it says 'rebuilt 2014 LS'..can you expand on that? Recent oil change? Do you let your car warm up any or do you start and go?
My SS has always nearly pegged 70 psi if I get on it until oil is at max temp.

The rebuild was body work and a radiator (the radiator had a pinhole leak and broken mounts)... engine was fine...
I've had the vehicle for roughly 200 miles, and I changed the oil as soon as I got the car and I used dexos 1 as suggested... Ive only driven the car 3 times... I typically let it warm up for about 5 mins but its like 50 degrees here... even fully warmed up, it will go all the way up to 87 PSI if I go over 3000 RPM does this help? Most likely culprit is your oil pressure sensor.

I will look into that, but it seems to behave normally at idle and when I'm accelerating slowly, but as soon as I open the throttle and bring the rpm up it just goes to the peg...
I'm starting to think maybe the oil change shop put the wrong oil in... is this a reasonable theory? would the wrong weight oil cause high oil pressure?

Mine behaves the same way (2014 LFX, 51k miles). Only when its warm at idle does it hover around 30psi. When driving it usually reads about 70psi. I have a short commute to work so it barely gets warmed up by the time I get to work. Next time I take a lengthy trip, I'll keep an eye out and report back.

thanks that helps me sleep a little easier... it makes me nervous seeing any gauge maxed out all the time...

Especially the fuel. Gotta bring that down ASAP.

LOL It's surprising easy to do that too haha... I think I turned 300 miles fuel range into 150 over the weekend lol.
