Question NASA Pro Racing

Are anyone of you, part of this group? Or currently racing in a series and uses their vert Camaros for it? If so, please contact me. I have a few questions I would like to ask about Safety, Modifications, and Limitations.

I am not looking for drag racing... this is a whole different animal.

Thanks in advance!

I don't race, but curious what you're wanting to do? NASA has different series, Autox, time trial, rally and different wheel to wheel racing series as well. The rules are different for each.

You could always start with their HPDE program with intent to earn a race license.

Whatever type of NASA events you're interested in, they have the rules for review on the website.

The HPDE program is exactly what I'm trying to do, but I am not sure if the rules apply that I found in this link: https://nasa-assets.s3.amazonaws.com...ibles_List.pdf

The rules were under the 'Global Forms'... I couldn't find anything specific to HPDE.

You will need a 4-point roll bar for a vert for that series/class, I've already looked into it.

Here is link to their rules page, they have a specific section for verts

Some HPDE days at various tracks have different rules for verts. At the tracks I go to, it's different for every group running the event. I'm sure varies by the owner of the group, their insurance...

I've been to some days where they allow verts with the top up. Not sure why? I've been to some where they allow verts with an instructor. Been to plenty where they simply say no verts without a cage.

Having said all that, no way in hell would I run a vert especially a ZL1 on a high speed road course. Maybe driving it 6 or 7/10s with an instructor, taking it real easy... I've seen several cars go tumbling at HPDE days. In a vert, they'd be dead. And all accidents were driver error and instructor would have easily prevented. So.... if you find an HPDE event where they let a vert in, strongly consider the ride along instructor.

I watched a S2000 do a nasty tumble out of turn 7 at Texas World Speedway (clockwise). This is a 100mph+ turn. He clipped too far into the apex, dropped a wheel, overcompensated/overcorrected and shot across the track the other way, tried to correct again and went sideways in the dirt ... not a good place to be at speed. They did multiple high speed barrel rolls, then at least 3 full on nose to tail cartwheels. The driver and instructor were incredibly lucky that the car never landed on the roof. Each touch point was either the wheels, nose, tail or the doors. It had a removable hard top but no cage. No major injuries, some soft tissue damage on extremities, and of course, stunned for a while. It was shocking for me to see, as I'm sucking in the turn at 100+ and I see this happen so fast, next thing I know the S2k is 10ft in the air, nose down with the windshield facing me, then it starts these crazy barrel roll spins.
