Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 vs General GMAX AS-03? Road noise?

So I've been running a set of General GMAX AS-03 as they are a fairly good daily driver tire the lasts long and gets decent traction however I thought they had a loud roar compared to the stock PZero's. I'm due for new tires and was wondering if the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 would be a better choice for me with regards to my complaint with the loud road noise from the Generals while needing something that lasts since I have a 2hr/day commute. The General GMAX are priced so good and last so much longer than the OEM tires that I can almost live with them again but if the Continental's are much quieter I might fork up the extra money for them. Thing is I was reading a review on Tirerack that complained that the Continental's where also loud. So what do you guys think? Are the Continental's a better tire or what?

I've had the stock PZeros and I have the Continental now and I can't hear any difference. But most of the time I have my NOWEEDS fully open and I always ride with my windows closed. But the times I don't have my NOWEEDS on I still don't hear any loud noises, so I don't know if that helps you at all.

You may want to look at the BFG's Comp 2 A/S...Great tire, low noise, great traction in any weather, est. life 35,000 miles, low break in mileage...Just an overall great tire for a DD and occasional drag run...Also has a great pattern to slice thru standing water...I paid $950.00 for a staggered set balanced, installed and warrantied...

The contis are OK tires. If you are commuting then the road noise will be reduced and the ride will be fine. I had to get rid of them since I am in the canyons alot, performance they let me down big time. They also only lasted me 12,000 miles due to my suspension set up.

My Challenger had Continental tires from the factory, and I thought they were complete garbage! I swapped them out with the General G-Max and have never had any issues. I just recently purchased General G-max tires to replace my P-zero's on the Camaro. I too have a long commute and I did not like the Pirelli's, I am a big fan of the G-max tires. Just my $.02

They are both good options, I run the gmax tires on mine and a buddy of mine has the continentals. Both seem to do very well. For a long lasting all season tire anyway.

I just purchased Toyo Proxes T4's a week ago to replace my stock P zeros and amazingly there quite also. I paid 1200$ for staggered fit with free tire rotation and free Roadside service.

I have these tires.

They are quieter than PZeros and have a much better on-center feel.

1st , the General G-max AS03 are great tires , I went with them from the P-zeros also , I don't care for them only got 14,000 off them , The Cont.DWS are great tires from reviews , But the cost was more . Then come to find out the General G-max are owned and made in the same factory as the Cont. so there you go , your basically getting the same tire but save more money . I had 19 's squared before , I went up to the 20's 245 x 45 and not looking back , rides so smooth and not much road noise . Just My OP.

This is the tire I want, but when I went to Tire Rack it said unavailable in my size?

^This. Plus, I have Toyo Proxes on my Lightning and they are the best all around tire I've had on the truck since buying it. The Hankook Ventus where a well known daily driving tire for the Lightning but the traction wasn't so great and they where a little louder, not GMAX loud, but louder than the stock F1's. The Toyo Proxes where night and day better and seemed to excel everywhere. So the Continentals are basically the same as the GMAX? Well I might want to stay away from them I suppose? My GMAX roar like a 4x4 tire - I can actually hear them with the radio playing. Love their price and durability and no complaints with traction other than the sidewalls seem a little too soft but the roaring sound of them turn me off. Seems like all the other good suggestions aren't available for the gen 5 Camaro at Tirerack which is shocking knowing how many Camaro's are out there. What to do, what to do....

I bought the BFGs because of the reasonable price and the relatively high ratings on the Tire Rack site (including a "Tire Rack Tested" review that was very favorable.) Granted, I have only been driving on these tires for about 2 weeks, but already there are things I am observing that are concerning. First, because of the aggressive tread pattern on these tires, the noise level is significantly greater than the Continentals they are replacing. Having driven them for several days now, I am very surprised that they were given a noise rating of 8 (or better) when I read the reviews. The noise is significant enough that the installer thought that they were aggressive tread snow tires when they took them for a test drive following the install. Also, when the tires are cold during the first few miles of my commute, these tires feel shaky and unbalanced until they warm up--despite the fact that they were professionally balanced and a steering alignment was done during the install. On a positive note, I think the aggressive tread pattern will be helpful during wet driving and light snow conditions, but these are not smooth rolling or quiet tires at all. On another positive note, the grip and performance aspects of the tires in aggressive turns seems to be very good. Time will tell if these tires wear well or if the noise will be such a distraction over the life of the tire that I just cut my losses and go in a different direction.

Another loud tire? Yikes... That could be my same review for the GMAX including the initial shaky feel.... Worst case scenerio I'll just get another set of GMAX since at least I'll know I'm paying the least amount of money out of pocket to be dissatisfied or maybe try the Toyo Proxes since they seem to be working very well on my Lightning and seem like a higher quality product than the Generals, Hankooks, etc....

Problem for me is matching Tireracks great prices....But I might be buying new rims with new tires already mounted on them so I might not be buying from Tirerack this time around anyway...
