2 year old models generally cannot be traded. There is a huge misconception regarding who owns 'inventory', it's generally not GM and within the first 24 months dealers need to play by the allocation rules. After 2 years, the dealer has purchased the vehicle for inventory and taken a gamble they can sell the car. Said dealer can transfer it to a sister franchise if there is one, but across county or even state lines is likely not happening. The debut of the Z/28 is now 4 years old with delivery right at 3 years old. They are a dime a dozen at the $40-42k level with low mileage (5k) pushing $45k and extremely low mileage (<1k) still under $49k. Knowing how haphazard the 5th Gen came into existence and knowing that in two years this will all become moot with the 6.5 Gen Z release, you couldn't give me a 5th Gen Z.

That is a little harsh. There is still no proof there is going to a 2018 Z28. Even if there is doubt the current Z28 will drop a lot more. You know the new one will be $80,000 or more. I know I could sell my Z28 for more then I paid for it.

It is pretty, but there is nothing cheap about it. Most people spend less on a paint job then that level of clear bra will cost.

The next version will be available for the 2019 model year, should debut in about 12 months and available for order next summer under current timelines.

Lots of speculation out there, but no facts posted by GM to date, so unless you work there - this continues to be just speculation.

Correct on GM and there won't be any direct press releases for a year. Closest public "proof" I'll offer is the GT4 program, though not directly related. Feel free to dismiss the notion though or don't or take it with a grain of salt in deciding to drop $40k+ on a 5 year old platform. My sources are not speculative though and they will also never be revealed.

The Z/28 moniker will only ever badge a NA platform and generally speaking, there isn't much farther one could take a "ZLE" except to be even more track focused with newer technology and wider creature comfort options. Think of the 911 model with 13 different 'platforms'. Track focused though, you are correct in that it is the best bang for the buck under $50k.
The Ford fan base support is warranted though, offering decades of special limited edition serialized models, hype and supported sales, collectors go nuts. GM doesn't care because of profits, refuses to use proper VIN registration or much less use VIN serialization for most models. While they may offer a particular model in a limited open production run (date limited), anyone can purchase who wants one which of course devalues the vehicles.
